I want to put a cruise control unit on my 72 Sun Coupe and need your advice. There are many aftermarket units out there but I prefer a stock item. Are the stock units difficult to locate? Must I use one off a 72 Skylark, or are the other year units compatible? How about units off of other car models?
    Thanks,:)

From what I have found, the stock cruise control systems are hard to come by. I was lucky enough to find one at a junk yard and picked up the complete unit. My 71 Buick GS and my 70 El camino SS 396 both have cruise in them. The Buick is slightly different than the Elky mainly becaue the Elky uses a cable to connect to the carb linkage where as the Buick set up is a vacuum pod with a ball and chain type of set up. The transducer and other parts should pretty much be the same.

I don't think the Chevy and Pontiac units don't have an indicator light to show that the cruise control is engaged. And the Olds unit has a dash mounted on/off switch.

Find a Lesabre 81 or older, Regal 81 or older.
These cars have the transducer and servo unit style cruise controls. and don't forget the cruise lever out of the column.
If the speedo cables are bad no problem their still available from GM. Most problems with this cruise control is the cable ends break off in the transducer,if thats the case their rebuildable.
