Hi :beer Figured I might get a qualified answer from this forum: Would this set do a good job on my '72 350 sbb o No: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4551189499 Any comments? Is it an OK set? uzzled: Price? Thanks for any help. I appreciate it. Stig.
that is no longer made but it was a good unit. Do not get in for half of what an MSD 6al etc would cost.
Thanks! Does this mean that there's no spareparts availible for this set (if needed)??? Give me a hint on a reasonable total price for this, ..... or shall I just let it go o No: Stig.
I would pass...and pick up the Pertronix (1181) to get rid of points and then use an Accel coil or equal.
50 bucks. Hayes is out of business. If know a vendor that has some for sale straight up. A regular coil ( inductive based ) system adds little or nothing whether it is Accel or whatever. The jump in perfromance is in a capacitor discharge based system. The performance jump is fundamentally based on the difference in the decay curve and the according release of energy over time of an E field for a capacitor versus the magnetic field for a coil. In a sense it is just the laws of physics or electromagnetism at work if you will.
I use an MSD Distributor Number is 8548. This has an advancstop bushing kit and different springs to change your advance. This has no vaccum advance. I used it with a mid size cam and have had no problems with it. I also had a large cam it the motor with this Distributor and had no driveability problems without the vaccum advance. I also bought the cap adapt system for it and this way you have a large cap for it.
If it is like most of those the height of the distrib. precludes the use of a stock ram air set up and for early year models it does not look stock. To some this matters and to others it does not.
That is why I went that route...so it won't be noticable. I like being able to stick it under a stock cap with none the wiser. For 85 bucks it's a good deal if your classic needs to look classic and the plus side it that if you happen to hit the cap while changing intakes, the caps are cheaper than if you didn't use stock.
