Since the weather warmed up a little yesterday(almost 40!), I took the opportunity to do a little work out in the driveway. The car I was working on is a four-banger with fuel pump & carb problems. I'd start it up, tinker a little, rev it some, tinker more, etc.; the usual fare. The car is kind of loud, so I'm sure the noise carried a ways.

Pretty soon, I hear rev's coming back at me. At first I thought it was just an echo, but realized it wasn't the same pattern. I played a little, throwing a few extra R's now & then, but basically just kept doing what I was doing. Before long, I notice whatever car was revving back at me was now cruising around the neighborhood, and getting closer.

Here comes a ricer ripping around the corner, trying to spin the tires and be all impressive or intimidating, I assume looking for the other guy with the 'hot car'.

When he saw what he was challenging he let off for a couple seconds, then blasted down the street out of sight. I wish I could have a gotten a picture of the look on his face. I've never seen anyone look so dejected and embarrassed at the same time

    What was I working on? ... ... ...

    This one's just about derby-ready.

The exhaust is cut off right at the oilpan. Hilarious part - his car sounded almost identical.
I bet that had to fry him!!

He didn't have to leave so fast. I'd have 'played' with him - by my car's rules!!!

Ha ha, what an idiot! I wish you got a picture of his face to post on the stupid people in the world website. I think that car you were working on would take that Ricer to school.

Your Olds is an enduro car though, right? Not a derby car?

Yeah its an enduro car. Kinda the same concept as a derby except for the fact you try to finish 100 laps. Call it a controlled demolition derby.

I was going to build an enduro car at one time. Had a 71 Impala 2-door shell. Bought a used cage off a friend building a new street stock car, some other small stuff. Never got it put together though. A guy paid me a decent price to get the Impala, so I let it go. There's starting to be a few enduros around the area again, so I still may.

bob peeks in, looks both ways ... the coast seems clear!

holy crap! more enduro guys! where / when are you running at and for how much?

    we run:
    $10k-15k at kalamazoo, MI
    $5k at New Paris, IN
$10k at Volusia speedway park near barberville, FL

we're thinking about running Bronson Speedway but we'd need to build a new car and we don't know how much they pay yet.

definitely don't run Butler, MI (web site is down, they might have closed this year)
    Ocala, FL or
Charlotte County Speedway at Punta Gorda, FL.
outrageous favoritism in teching / poor track quality / rough drivers at those tracks. butler was advertising $7k for a 100 car field and when only 32 cars showed up they took all of the purse money out of 1st place. $200 entry fee + the driver and scorer (not to mention crew) not being included in the car entry is a waste of time when 1st is only going to get $1200.

bob, flogging the crap out of a 71 electra 225.

I race at Riverhead Raceway on Long Island. Entry fee is $50, which includes pit pass for driver, tech inspection, welding insurance, and car entry. Purse is $1,000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, $300 for 3rd, $200 for 4th, $100 for 5th, and $50 6th - 10th. The fields are usually 100 - 120 cars per race. 4 Races per event.

The most fun Ive ever had in my life.
