I have this Buick Regal that just won't act right. It is a BBB that is .030 over with Ross light weight pistons and balanced bottom end, ported 430 heads with swirl polished valves, sp-1 intake, 1000 cfm barry grant, th400 with a 3400 stahl, 4.10 gear with a 28x10 tire. The car is not consistant it has been a best of 6.80's and a worst of 7.23. It had been the best of 6.64 on nitrous I need it to drop more than that. Can anyone give me somemore advice on how to get it down lower on motor without canging heads now so when I change to the stage 1 TE heads I want it to get down the track.

Pretty vague info here. Ported heads can mean alot or a little. Cam?
60 foot times? mph? Traction problem? There are lots of guys here that can maybe help, but we need more info.
It's kinda like writing in and saying my car won't start , what's wrong? Jim Burek

My friends car had a consistant problem it would never run the same number twice 10.80 11.0 10.70 end up changing the transmission and that was the problem the car ran 10.30's it was sliping but not enough to really feel it!

The car is a 85 Buick Regal it has the TA408s camshaft, the 60 ft time is a best of 1.55 at a 6.92. I know for a fact that the car should be going some 6.70's on motor. I had a 8 inch converter in the car and now I am changing it to a 9 inch 3400 to 4400 stahl convertor opposed to the 4200 to 4800 converter that was flashing almost 6000 on the brake.

Are your heads ported? SOunds like some of your problem may be in the 8 inch converter. Jim Burek

Yes the heads are ported and polished. They are iron headed 68 430 heads with swirl polished valves in them. I have a 9 inch converter that I am planning on putting into the car. I have two different trans for the car. Two th400 on with brake and one without. I also needs to know if the chassis need to be tied together or does a regal have a one piece chassis.

A custom 9 converter will be the hot ticket. You were flashing through the converter before. Hopefully they built it to leave on the brake somewhere between 3200-3600 RPM. You never want to leave on the converter as high as it will stall. This is like leaving in second gear with a stick. You get no torque multiplication from the converter this way. Good luck.

All "A" bodies were a full frame. No unibodies. There are ways to strengthen and stiffen your chassis. What makes you think you need it?

It is hard to tell because i have not been able to get the car to hook up after the initial launch. I needs to figure some tech on the chassis of this car. It has ladder bars.

I would wait to see what it does with the new converter before changing anything else. A converter can be the cause of all your problems including hooking.

I have not put the trans back in the car because I wants to put the tranny in with the brake in it and then go from there. I can't see why this combination won't go in the 6.70's to high 6.60's on motor. I know that there is someone out there that can help me. The car is a full body regal that has been stripped to the max. No carpet, Seats, factory wiring, ladder bars, no heater box, lexan windshield. I know that there should some good numbers out of it. Please help me. Wanting to race again soon.

    Going Fast?

Sorry I couldn't get to give you a hand while I was home. Just TOO BUSY! I would wait to see what that converter and trans-brake give you. It will blow your mind what the right converter will do. You wont know until you get it back to the track. Those rockers are still on the top of the list to get fixed. You are losing lift and duration off your cam with the stock rockers and shafts.

Yeah it is good to hear from u. I have been contiplating whether or not to put the heads on this motor or wait for the other motor that I have on the stand. I need to really know what the clearances should be for the rods, mains, and everything for a nitroused Buick 455. I reall wants to do some things a little different this year coming up. I have alot of plans and people I am after. If not asking too much what is your mechanics name and phone number maybe he can get my other motor together for me. I want those 5.65 that you have in your GS. I really wants to run really fast at ant cost.
