Steering wheel removal

    I have been wondering for the longest.. I have a 72 skylark and i have been trying to figure out how to swap the original for an aftermarket wheel... lol but i cant figure out how to take the darn thing off.. also any suggestions of good aftermartket steering wheels ???

    Its pressed on. You'll need a tool. You can use a harmonic balancer puller.

    Also do not tug on the rim of the wheel. You can warp or crack it.

    Make sure any aftermarket wheel modifications will provide for your signals and horn.

    Most parts stores have steering wheel puller kit for about $10.

    Its not strictly a puller that you need... if I remember, its some kind of... thing, that presses on a plate which unlocks the rest of it so it can slip off. Ask the parts store guys, they will know. Autozone rents them for free.

    You don't need a "steering wheel lock plate remover" if you only want to remove the steering wheel.
    (you first have to remove the steering wheel to use the lock plate remover tool)

    The lock plate remover is on the right in this photo.
