That is very nice to know a Qjet is easy to tune. On a Holley, there are a lot of adjustments to deal with. Vet

    You're 100% right.
Holley says, we made our carburetors so you can adjust everything. BUT I don't want to adjust "everything".
I just want it to work right out of the box.

He tweaks it accordingly based on what you tell him your build is and does them as a hobby, in an effort to keep our hobby moving.

He's in Michigan and I'm in Massachusetts and it wasn't an issue. Just a thought.

Or just keep the Holley on. Your car, your choice. :D

Thank you, Larry, always appreciate your help.
I'm not up on Comp Cams, but cam specs seem mild. Should be good for the street and cruising. Vet

About 20 years ago I bought a stage 2 Jet Performace Products Quadrajet for a 350 Chevy in my 84' Z28. That carburetor was the biggest piece of crap and waste of money I ever bought. Don't blame you for going with something else.

Cliff Ruggles and I suspect Ken and others won't touch one of those "remanufactured" carburetors. They have been ruined much like ST300 converters from Poston.

Hi Larry, thank you for the TA cam comparison to my Comp cam.
Read the writeup, TA Cam is almost identical to the Comp cam and the writeup is exactly how my cam runs and idles.
Thank you for you going the extra mile for me. :D

So you are running an adapter to use the Holley on stock intake? That's not a good setup......
Better to go back to Qjet and source a 800 Qjet.

Hello 68Buick-Jim. Sorry for the long post.....

During the 2+ years I had my Buick in a Classic car shop having upgrades added and a lot of mechanical work done (to correct some previous owner screw-ups).
I had a long talk with the owner of this shop, we discussed several performance parts that didn't work out of the box that had to be either sent back or replaced with another part (carburetors to be specific).
He said he has gone back to rebuilding carburetors because he is getting too many bad ones, he is forced to send back and wait forever to get another part back. Even though it costs the customer more $$$ to have a carb rebuilt. He's getting to many customer complaints that the restoration processes is taking too long.

Not only is Jet Performance garbage, but we had to send back the first Holley too. It had a bad casting that caused gas to leak out of the carb. Couldn't believe it.
Then the new MSD ignition system died a month later (another Holley product). What the heck is going ON? The shop owner has noticed that quality control (QC inspections) has been lacking recently at Holley. O'Boy, that's bad.

Then I had bad quality control from Legendary and got very poor Tech support. Fortunately, I was able to get email addresses for the owner, COO and Sales Manager. The shop Service Manager couldn't get response or results from the Legendary Tech.
I stepped in and sent an email to the owner his managers and got immediate response. I have to say, the COO tool over and did a great job for me, super nice and very knowledgeable guy on classic cars too.
He found their vendors door panels were not in specifications (dimensions wrong) and the vendors QC inspectors missed the defective panels.
You all will love this. The root of the problem, the 30+ year skilled sheet metal mechanic retired, and the newbie young guy didn't have the skills to make the parts correctly on a hydraulic metal press.
Can't beat highly experienced skilled craftsmen.

The other problems, super long wait times to get parts, is out of control.
The second huge problem, not enough highly experienced classic car mechanics. The older are cars get the younger the mechanics are.

Young mechanic says to the old mechanic, Dude, where the fuel injection? What's a carburetor and that choke thing?
I can't work on this car, there's no ECM, how can I find out what's wrong with it?
You got problems, dude, you should see this car, has a stick, but doesn't have L-D-N-R or P, how the heck does this work
and why does it have 2 brake petals?

Sorry, I have to input some humor, or I will cry. VET

Yes, it does require an adapter plate, but it works very well, no problems to date.
However, if I have a major issue come up, I have the option of installing a B-4B or an Edelbrock Performer manifold.

I will address that issue when and if it comes up. Thank you for keying me into this possible problem. Vet

Dont rule out late model(77-81 pre electric) BOP quads for cores. Accept for a few odd ducks, most are 800CFM (even the 301 Pontiac)castings and have a few benefits that some early ones dont have. Mainly easy swap to electric choke and externaly adustable APT.
With a bit of pre measuring Cliff can put the right parts together to get you close and as you well know ALL carbs require a bit of tweaking when installed and each combo requires a little different set ups.

I used to do alot of carb rebuilds for Maryland Performance Center. Often I would get a call from them and say not right. Had to do the install myself. One guy drove for a week with PCV hose off. Said ran terrible wanted $$$ back. Another time crap in needle and seat. I said did you flush fuel line? Said no, why?

Later on I said I needed the car on any non-stock/racing setup. Sometimes I even took car to track to fine tune. A 455 Trans Am went from 13.10 to 12.80s getting rid of messed up 780 Holley and putting on a tweaked 800 QJ. Interesting car.....he had hand controls.....I raced it for him and won trophy class. That hand control was better on the tree than my foot! Was even joking I was going to put one on my car....I bet nothing in rule book against it......

Thank you. I had no idea that the 77-82 QJets had some better features.
I really like the electric choke I have now. I will keep the later QJets in mind if I do a swap over. Appreciate the heads up.
So much I don't know about QJets. Vet

Knowledge is power. Grab a copy of Cliffs and Everyday's book and read up.
I have Cliffs(intend to get Everyday's) and it is full of good stuff.
Even if you have someone else tune it for you, most are open to knowing more and appretiate learning something new.
May even turn yourself into a DIYer for some tweaks.
