EBay Link Good afternoon: Anyone notice the column shift speedo and the floor shift/console in the car? Posi not functional maybe? Posi was part of Stage pkg. No door panel emblems either Thx JA
i think the 70 gs big blocks that came with A.C. had tha 3.42 gears. the 3.64s were for non AC cars. youd think if it were a real stage 1 the seller would have some documentation.
Those wheels do not look like Buick rallyes.....they look like the Mopar five spokes. I dont know I might be wrong but they deffinately dont look like the Buick style rims.
The console shift cars had a different speedo? It's been 15 years, but it seems like my 72 GS350 had the same speedo. The only difference was the collar on the steering wheel didn't have a place for a lever. It still spun when I selected gears with the console shifter too??? I agree with Scott too, those aren't Buick ralley wheels. They get wider towards the edge of the rim. I can't tell if there's a trim ring on them either. I'd guess either Chevelle SS or didn't Olds have a rim like that too??? Maybe the 3.64's could have been special ordered, but without a posi? It does say that the rear end has been gone through. Maybe it's someone on the board here, or Marco may know of it through the Stage 1 registry.
I don't have this car registered. The front rim does get wider towards the rim (but not the rear rim). I would definitely get some Buick documentation before bidding...you would want to be absolutely sure
Floor shifted automatics DO have the PRND12 on the speedo cluster. Check Gr.9.761 in the manual and also my car. Matt
Re: Column vs Floor shift Well, ummm.....yea they do. As Marco stated, only 4 speeds do not have PRNDL2L1 (and for good reason, they're 4 speeds!). Automatic's, column or floor shift, have the gear selector in the speedo...
Adam - When you move the 'staple shifter' into a gear, a cable will also move the indicator on the speedo to the same gear.
I don't have a console car to check this any more, but I seem to remember it also moving the collar on the steering wheel too - the same one that a shift lever would be attached to had it been column mounted.
Re: Re: Column vs Floor shift Good evening Brad and all: o No: I respect your knnowledge of these cars and figure you own an example of this, but I need to ask........... Is this is a Buick only item? I can guarantee no other GM has gear indicators/markings on the column if it is floor shifted, auto or stick.. That is why there is markings on the console. The sleeve on the column does still move but no selector markings are anywhere but the console. I have owned many floor shifted automatics albeit none a Buick, all 5 I have owned were and are column shifted.... and none have had markings/indicators on the speedo. This goes for Chevys, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. I realize we are talking Buicks on this board but seems strange for only Buicks to have this feature. Please view photo and advise.......... Thx JA
70 Chevy SS396 o No: Must be Buick only......... Here is a Chevy....... Same thing, plain speedo and floor shifted auto, 1970 A Body, SS396 Thx JA
Floor shifted automatics do have the markings on the instrument cluster. They are there to also lock the shifter when you take out the key and light up at night to let you see what gear your in as there are no lights on the console.
Buick Only then Good evening: Thx for the response, if this is true, then the answer to my question is it is a Buick only feature. The light observation is a good one, all other GMs have a lighted indicator in the console. Incidentally, the column and shifter is not locked by markings, but the sleeve on the column, the gear indicator is moved by a little wire like clip attached to the sleeve. The sleeve moves when shifted in all makes, there just isnt an indicator on the speedo on POC's. That would be a very strange anomally for GM to do this on only one make of car. o No: Thx JA
Chevy style exhaust on GS cars bugs the heck out of me. Looks kinda like a T-Type steering wheel. Strange how the pic of the back of the car doesn't show much bumper. John
