Has anyone used any of these heads. I have ordered them to go my combination and does they flow better than a ported set of 430 Big Port Heads right out of the box?

Why would you ask that now, you've already ordered them. Why didn't you ask TA or whom ever you ordered them from that question??? I'd bet that "out of the box" they will not flow as good as ported 430 heads. The flow numbers given by the manufacture are somewhat general, or they had 1 set that worked that good and that's the number they throw out there. Every set is different, you could get some that flow terribly out of the box.

Right out of the box with only a valve job, they should flow aprox 280 on the intake and 180 on the exhaust. If your ported 430's were ported very good, they should be at least that good.
Botom line, spend some money and have some porting done on tha alum heads, it will be money well spent. Jim Burek

I have them in my GS. 3,070 pounds race ready ran a best of a 9.25 at 144.10. On the dyno it peaked at 780 HP at 7,000. So I guess you can say the heads DO work.

    Flow Data on Heads

    Lift 100 200 300 400 500 600 700

    INTAKE 79 167 238 294 332 354 360
    EXHAUST 59 130 181 216 240 253 258

This coming issue of the Build Sheet I have the complete build up on the engine.

Another shot of the intake ports.

Used 2.21 intake valves (2.25 valve cut down) and 1.81 exhaust valves, both with 11/32" stem. Another HUGE tip: They love to breath! We gained 30 HP on the dyno by switching from 2" hookers to 2 1/8" custom headers (no one makes 2 1/8th for Buicks). Have the dyno sheets to prove it.

Very impressive Rick! But "out of the box" is alittle different. My friend Rich has some Stg. 4's and the numbers are not what TA claimed. I'm sure you've got about 100 hours of time porting & flowing, and or at least $1000 paid out. And you had a specific goal, and research was done regarding what parts work best together, not just throwing it together and hoping for better results than you actually are having. It's good to have a "method to the madness"!!!

I can understand that you want to compare the difference between the two. But like Jim Burek posted, with aluminum heads you will have the better investment. You can always just have them port matched and cleaned and run them and the following year you can always take them off and do some additional porting. What's also nice if the heads get damaged you can get them repaired, not irons unless you have real deep pockets.

Is that a sleeved head bolt boss showing on the left-side port?

    Brass sleeve

Mine head has the same thing done to the head bolt hole. It is sleeved with a brass tube. My problem is that after I took the heads on/off a few times the roof cracked since there wasn't enough support. I know someone that is working on a steel pin and a custom tapered stud 1/2>7/16 to help clamping force and reduce the intrusion from the stud into the port. The steel pin should carry the load better and keep the roof from colapsing any more. I have a little more material removed but that area is still thin.

Well I have a good guy that will get the heads together for me at any expense. That is not the problem the problem is getting my beast where I want it at without all the problems that I am experiencing. I have a guy that is going to build me a set of headers for $800 and they are going to be 2 1/8

Grab it! That is a great price. The average rate for custom headers that are also Jet Hot coated is around $1500.

No they will not be jet hot coated. I am more concerned about the converter. I hope that I am going the right way with the way I am setting up the convertor. I want it to be 3400 on motor and 4400 on nitrous.
