Well I managed to get into to 2 street races this past summer with our 72 Stage 1 Buick while cruising. The first was with a 2000-2002 Pontiac Firebird "Firehawk" with Canadian plates. He edged us on the first red light. I took him on the second red light from a roll & pulled away from him.He ran strong. I had seen the red Firebird at a couple of shows that we had the GS in earlier this year and from what I remember it was not stock. I had no idea what a Firehawk was. I went on line later and found that they are a rare production car with the vette motor with 0-60 times from 4.9-5.5 seconds. The catch to this is that was my first race with the Stage 1 since 1978! The car was off the road from 1979-2004. It still uses the high compression pistons and Isky cam I had installed back in 1976, untouched. It has the original rear end fluid, universals, tranny fluid, and I had not had time to tune it this year. I had my son with me and it was neat that he seen it. I had told him stories over the years of how hard the Stage 1 ran. Thirty years later and it's picked up were it left off. Right out of a 70's time warp.
My 2nd race with the Stage 1 was against my son's new 2005 SRT/4 Neon(it was bought new in May 2006). He pulled a hole shot on me when I was not expecting it with the SRT/4 but I did manage to catch and pass him. The 2005 SRT/4's are the quickest. It's actually a 4 cylinder hemi. Tim's SRT/4 ran alot harder than alot of the 383 and 440 Roadrunners, Chargers and 340 Dusters I faced before with the Stage 1 during the 70's muscle car street wars. He just got his Stage 1 upgrade and according to Motor Trend's tests results 0-60 should be 5.0 seconds and the quarter mile at 13.3 for a 2005 SRT/4. But I still tell him that real men drive Buicks!

Tom, Cool storys. Now go change your transmission & rear end lube. Make the rear end fluid synthetic and add the limited slip additive if you have a posi. Then figure out what you need to tweak next on Ol Bu or you might be looking at the back of your sons tailights. What kind of example would that be. :pp :3gears: :beer
