    Hi All,
almost ready to start the assembly of the Stage 1. I was wondering if anyone out there had any sound clips of a 455 similar to what I'm doing with mine?? The heads have been ported and polished, valves cut(3 angle), TA 413 ish cam (a little more aggressive), 9.5:1 compression, stock intake and carb for now, with long tube headers and 3" pipe x crossover I'll be using the ultra floww muffler from Dynomax, just wanted to hear what mine will sound like.:Brow: Get some goosebumps before I start. Thanks for any help.

Did you see the link on the top of my first post ?? its a video clip of it running a 12.666.....

.....but that was with Drag Radials that dont hook, 3.08 rearend gears, and the motor was still heat soaked from the 120 mile trip to the track

I went a best of 12.39 with a 3.42 10-bolt....until it grenaded, also severly traction-hampered off the line.

With slicks, 3.73's and a good launch Im sure its got an 11 in it - but I drive it ALOT more than I race it

Alan, how do you like the 3.08's?

I've got 3.08's in my 69 as well. Gonna have to posi equip it eventually though. It's the original Canadian 12 bolt, I'd rather keep her in there.

    Great video BTW.

I tried to download it but my windows media player wouldn't play it. I'll try it again tonite. Sounds like a pretty mean car you got there. I'll be using a 3:73 setup with my car with slicks hopefully I should run some good times.

    question

Hi, I wanted to know the source of the low gear set in your tranny. Ditto for the 3:08 gears. Are the 3:08 new or they from way back when?

Just seen the video, car looks & runs good. It would be great to hear her idling up close if its not too much trouble for you. Thanks for all the help.

    Hi Guys....sorry for the delay

I'll have to call and find out the name of the gearset manufacturer....My tranny guy, FB Transmissions (Freddy Brown) suggested them to me about 6 years ago. They are used alot in the fire-truck races where they go a few hundred feet in the "Race Trucks", jump off and do other silly things......Heavy trucks running High HP /TQ. He recommended them for my heavy convert.

The real benefit is its like having multipe rear gears in your car....here's the breakdown for my 3.08's

    TH400
    standard 1st gear = 2.48
    Lower first gear....= 2.75
    Standard 2nd gear=1.48
    Lower 2nd gear....= 1.57

    Doing a little math

    First gear
    2.48(X)=2.75, so X (the difference in gearing) = 1.109
    1.109 * 3.08 = 3.42 .......So First gear looks like 3.42's !!

    Second gear
    1.48(X)=1.57, so X=1.061
    1.061 * 3.08 = 3.267.....or approx like 3.23 gears

So....My Transmission combined with the 3.08 gears makes
First look like its got 3.42's
    Second look like 3.23's
    and third is like 3.08's

This is optimised for cruising.....nice 3.08s on the highway with a 28.5" tire gives me 70mph RPMs just above 2600

If you were more Street / Strip oriented, and you wen with 3.42's it would look like this

    First = 1.109 * 3.42 = 3.79
    Second = 1.061 * 3.42 = 3.62
and thrid would be 3.42 ....So its like launching with 3.73's or better

Add a Variable Pitch Converter to it and :Brow:

Its definately a compromise situation because the drop off from second to third is so drastic (as you can hear in the Video) but its kinda like a poor mans O.D. Tranny and suits my setup and how I mostly drive the car - ALOT of cruising (trips on the highway), Some Street play, and 1 or 2 times a year at the strip

The rear gears are Richmond - It was either 3.08 or 3.42 as NO VENDOR makes anything new inbetween for the 12-bolt CHevy housing. I had 3.42's in the 10-bolt I blew up and wanted alittle lower rev's on the highway. I prolly would have gone for 3.31's or 3.23's if they were avialable

    Lower First gear 1.109x 3.31 = 3.67
    lower first gear 1.109 * 3.23 = 3.58

I couldn't get sould clips of the motor Idling ... If you read the thread in THE BENCH "Hmmm....do you think I found the problem??" you'll see my car is currently slightly apart to fix a severly cracked Flex Plate.....as soon as its back together I'll get some sound bytes for you
