I actually have something nice to say about my DMV in CALIF. They reissued my personalized license plates, STAGE 1”, but it wasn’t easy. Obtaining the plates 12 years ago is another story for another day but I thank James Poston of Poston Enterprises. Anyway, I sold my car with the plates to a buyer in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<st1:State><st1lace>Michigan</st1lace></st1:State> 7 years ago. I should have taken the plates off when I sold it but I didn’t think I would buy another Stage 1. Just recently I decided to buy another one. Naturally, I wanted to put the STAGE 1 plates on my new car. I checked the DMV records and learned the plates were still assigned to me, although expired 7 years. The car never made it back to CA. so I still owned the rights to the plates. CA could not have reissued them to someone else unless I relinquished those rights. I thought all I had to do was go to the DMV office and order another set. Sounds simple, wrong. It took talking with 4 clerks over a two-week period and I finally I got to speak with a supervisor Once he heard the explanation he agreed to re issue the plates to me. I did have to pay $33 X 7 years but that was OK. The plates are on order.
