There is a guy in Texas that specializes in Qjets and always seems to have the correct carbs. He always wants an arm and a leg but his stuff is usually high quality.. Just do a search for Rochester carbs or check listings in Hemmings usually under Chevy parts. He told me in the past they even had NOS stage-1 carbs.

That is the site I was thinking of. I got a real nice used Olds carb from them years back it was expensive but nice. they also know the value of rare ones like Stage-1 so be prepared$$$$$$$$$

If this is the carb I am thinking of I held it in my hands, and it looked to be in very good shape.

Are there many internal differences from a '70 Riv. carb. # 7040247?

The one that was in TX is now in FL being restored for me. Got lucky, the build date is 5 days prior to my car.

Well its been almost 6 weeks ago I thought I had one of these bought from a guy in Iowa. :TU: Posted it on the board for 500. and thought he was crazy at that price. I told him they usually go for more than that but if he wanted to sell it to me for 500. I would take it. Everything was cool as far as I knew, but after 2 days the communication stopped and he would never respond back to me. :( I think some one else on the board must have slipped in and got it behind my back. Kinda sucks to know that this goes on here, I always had hoped that everyone on here was above that kind of bull$hit. I guess money is more important than a mans word to some. I sent him a nice pm explaining what I thought about the deal and told him a man is no better than his word, and if that was the way he did business then to each his own. I usually dont try to raise alot of hell about things but this really kind of chapped my a$$. So I guess I am still looking for a reasonably priced stage 1 carb, and yes I have a car that needs one I am not just trying to make money. Thanks Mike :TU: OH, and whoever got the carb-what goes around comes around. :spank: Hope you enjoy it!!

Well, I agree with your sentiments. Just being a Buick owner doesn't make you honorable. Just look at the fighting over parts that goes on on ebay. The rarer the part, the worse the behavior. I decided a long time ago that having a correct carb wasn't worth the trouble. Dan

    Mike,
An option may be to find a correct 70 455 bowl (the Stage 1 uses the same bowl casting #) , and have the pad machined and restamped.

This may not be of much help, but back when in the early 70's when we were drag racing Buicks, if you ordered a carburetor body from Buick, you received one with no part number stamped on it. In 1971 the venturi size was increased so we would stamp the 1970 part number on the 1971 body and gain some cfm. I did not feel bad about doing this as NHRA had arbitrarily factored the engine from 360 hp to 400 hp and we needed all the help we could get!!
Perhaps replacement bodies are still out there somewhere.
