I purchased a filter from CARS in NJ. Piece of crap!:af: Has anyone ever had this problem, the filter looks identical but the stem was slightly too large. Therefore it wont fit in the trans. While (gently) pushing it in, the stem snapped. Where can I get a quality replacement filter that will actually fit?:Do No:

Jason, Call around to your local parts stores if you have not already. They might have to special order the filter. Make sure when you go to pick it up you have your old one. This way you can match them up :Brow: .

It was nice talking to you at Allentown PA Automania. Sorry I did not get a chance to post in your other threads. It looks like you are getting a great start on the car.

    Take care,
    Bob

Walt, I was selling stuff this time around. I had a couple 66 parts :Smarty: . I had a console and air cleaner with me. Jason's dad happened to see the stuff and we started talking. His dad said Jason had a 67 Special. When I was talking to Jason he mentioned he needed interior door handles and that there were blue on the end. I was not able to help him with the question, but I did mention you Walt. I told him you know tons about these cars and V8BUICK.COM is the place for help parts and more :beers2: :beers2: :beers2: .

Did you go to Allentown this year? If so what day did you go?

I am thinking about going to maple grove and possibly cowtown at the end of March if the weather is good.

    Take Care,
    Bob

Jason, Don't worry Walt will get over it. Buick guys like Walt and most of the people on this site have class and love to play around sometimes :3gears:

OK guys help me out. I did what you told me to do and shopped locally, got the filter and got the same damn thing i had. So now Ive spent $47 on tranny filters and neither of them work. WTF! I passed up the NOS one on EBAY cause the other one was on order and got screwed from both directions. HELP!:af: :Dou:

Is there something in the hole in the tranny where the neck of the filter goes that is preventing it from going in? Use a flashlight and make sure. Maybe the old o-ring is stuck inside.

The filter on my van uses a plastic collar and I always forget to pull the old collar out :eek2: .

It have been a long time since I had the pan on my 66 off and I forget how the filter goes in.

If it is not the correct part from the parts store I would let them know it does not fit and you are returning it :Smarty:

:Do No: :Do No: It looks exact to the purolator that I took out of the tranny but the stem seems slightly larger in diameter. I dont know?

What did the parts store say? If it does not fit it is the wrong part and they should take it back. Make sure you bring the old filter with you and show them the difference between old and new. That is why I said to go local. This way you bring the old one and match it up at the parts store and don't leave with something that does not fit.

Its the right part but there must be a manufacturing defect. The both came from the same supplier obviously. I just need a quality part.
