Back in 1988 I was out crusing a small town in central WI. After not finding anything to race we pulled into the local Kwik Trip to get something to eat. My buddies '68 SS396 drew quite a crowd. Mostly younger guys who had never seen a Chevelle like this before. So as we loped over to park one of the guys asked what motor we had in it. We were not going to spill the beans and say 396/375HP, so we left it as "a small block, with a bad plug wire".

I think they all would have bought it until we pulled out of the parking lot, sideways. As we roared down the main drag we banged second and heard a loud noise form the rear of the car. Got a little squirrely, but settled down. Of course no one would come near us after that little show.

Found out the next day that we ripped out an upper control arm on the rearend. $15 bucks at the local Chevy dealer and we were on our way again. The car was pushing close to 550 HP thru a munice M21, quite a ride. My buddy sold that car to buy a house shortly after that night, scared?

    Damian,

He never told me about any, the car was an original numbers matching 375HP car. I know he was afraid to wreck it. Unfortunately, the was sold to finance a new home.

The Hemi Satellite in my other post was very well known (raced) back in the 60's. Was the first Street Hemi in Madison, WI. Only every lost 1 race to an R code Galaxy. Blew the clutch on the start, the other guy was nice enough to take his money, but loaded the Hemi on the trailer the Galaxy came off of. Andy said he knew something was up when a truck & trailer showed up to the race.

'66 was the only year that the Hemi was offered with any kind of a warrenty. I believe they stopped offering it around mid-year. Andy has had that motor rebuilt 2x by the dealer, 1967 & 1968. Tthe last time it was set-up as a race HEMI, with the street hemi intake.

    Later,
    Jim
