    squeezing 30X10.5 tires (update)

    How close is too close...???

Previously I had 28X10.5W M/Ts. The "W" equates to about a 11.5" patch. My differential is set a bit more center than stock and I rolled the top of the quarter for clearance. I had only a tad bit of rubbing on the inside frame rails.

These are Goodyear 30X10.5 (Thanks Gary) and rest much closer to the lower rocker portion of the wheel well.

I'd like to retain the chrome trim and not butcher the wheel well.

    Suggestions?

That looks to close I run a 30x9 and when it grow it rubs a little bit on the front of the wheel wells( hits the screw ) and there is a 1" of room

    Jeff:

I saw the "gas" post... Congrats. Those are some great numbers. Looks like you're a confirmed addict.

Regarding the ladder bars... I guess I could. All I would be doing is moving the yoke a bit more out of the trans... My coilovers would then shift and I've already got tight clearance between them and my stock/sumped tank... >>>I'd probably hack the wheel well up a bit first.

You know you really want these tires. You know it's all you need to get your combo into the 10's... ---You can't have 'em. LOL

I just went out and measured....With the new design Goodyears which have a little larger rollout/diameter....I've got 1 inch to the chrome.

Kinda wish I still had those tires:ball:
Since they changed the design I haven't gotten close to the 1.31 60 ft. I went on those.

I would say if it's about an inch you'll be OK....

    PS
My motor eats bronze distributor gears too....They wear to a point then stop,Just keep checking it as normal maintenance.

I would never mess around with a tire that rubs on anything.

Tires grow, chassis flex, bodies roll.............if I'm not mistaken, I think that is how RACIN' JASON BETWARDA out of Scarsdale N.Y. lost his life in his 8 second Mustang..........TIRE RUB!!!!!!!

    Just my 2 cents !!!!!!!!

    Gary,

Thanks for taking the measurements and the feedback on the dist gear. How did you gain that amount of clearance?

I've got the grinder and cut-off wheel ready... Who knows, by the time I'm done, it'll be mini-tubbed :beer (just kidding)

If you're in the mood for some touch up you can make a ''pie-shaped'' cut in front of the wheel opening which would allow you to push the wheel lip forward to gain more room.
You could also lengthen you L/bars at the front rod end.

I did both.....But of course my paint is not as nice.
Essentially what you are doing is shortening the rocker panel which would would mean you would have to cut the rocker moulding as well.

You probably can make them fit if you work at it. I have 29 x 11.5 on my car, with a stock type rear end and suspension. They did rub but not anymore. Just once in a while during turns, but I have a spool, a posi probably won't do it. I also lowered my car 5 inches in the back, and they still don't rub. The chrome trim will have to go though. I have not been much over 110, but no rubbing from growth. I run 9 psi. The wheel well is cut up from the inside, but you cannot tell from the outside. If you are racing, it is worth the extra tire. I used to worry about cutting on my 61,000 original miles Buick Skylark, but not anymore. As long as it improves my ET, I am for it. By the way, my wheels are 8.5 wide.

Yeah....Goodyear decided to make 2 versions of that size now and in doing so they increase the diameter and rollout a little.

Of course I got the wrong version.....They make a part# 1790 that is all the rage in the small tire classes,They are stiffer w/ a little different compound and seem to be doing pretty well on the heavier cars.

Mine are the #2009 which are a softer sidewall......They are coming around now that I've gotten up to 13.5 psi but they still aren't as good as the ones you got from me.
    I can't wait to try the 1790's.....

uhh, not yet. Its pretty damn ugly right now. The car looks fine, but the top is shot. I just got this thing going. We had to use a whole roll of black duct tape just to make it down the track.

Well... I cut her. The results are attached. I'll have a chance next week to test it in Morocco Indiana at the "Midwest Challenge".

    >>Will also be trying out a Stage2 scoop instead of the GS hood.

that was plenty of room. i only have a finger width between the front of my wheelwell and the tire on my racecar and i've never had trouble with it rubbing.
