    tubecatgs Finally a 4 speed......

I wanted to lower my front end by 1 inch on my 72 Skylark convertible. I bought a set of front springs from Summit that are advertised as 1 inch lowering. However, while i have the frot end apart..... I measured the stock spring (might be original) and it is about 16.25 inches tall. The Summit spring measures 13.50. That's almost a 3 inch didference before install. Any idea if this will sit 1 inch lower or will it be almost 3? The new spring seems a little heavier duty.

Also, I forgot to note.... does the flat side onnthr spring go on the bottom ?

    Thanks

Flat side up, as far as the height goes it's hard to say , too many variables, the shorter spring is going to be stiffer so I would venture to say it will be close to what your after

Thanks. I found and googled the part number BMR SP034a.... it looks like they are 2 inch drop per the specs which makes more sense ..not what i thought I ordered but it was like 4 months.... I will will give them a try... hope I dont have a any clearance issues....running stock 14" inch ralley wheels so I wouldn't think so.

Man... What turned into just rebuilding the rear end to fix a leak turned into 7 months and pretty much a mild frame on restoration..... motor rebuild, Muncie rebuilt, floors, frame sanded, all new suspension, steering components, bushings etc. Etc..... I must handed sanded and painted 1000 bolts it seemed :) .... hopefully a few weeks away from driving it again as long as the Buffalo snow holds off a few more months... haha.

You can't compare free standing height of a spring, and installed height. The spring rate will determine how much the spring compresses installed.
