Hi guys, I thought I'd post this info for all who may be interested. There is a fellow in California who is machining newer model hubs down to fit our older cars. He charges $110 + shipping + $50 core charge. You can send him your hub if you like and waive the core charge. Contact: Jerry Sally 38902 rd 810 raymond,ca.93653 Phone # 559-658-2993 Thanks to Mike (ragtops) for the info! Another possible option is to use the '66 Chevelle 2 spoke wood sport wheel hub and either machine the "slot" for the third spoke of the Buick wheel, or use a spacer around the top 2/3 of the wheel so it sits flush on the hub. May need to use longer screws though. The Chevelle hub is available on e-bay or some of the repro companies for $40-50. Thanks, Brian
Why can't you just use a '68 3 spoke sport wheel hub o No: I think those are being reproduced. I even used a '69 and up hub on my '68 until I got the correct '68 model.
'68 hub is too big in diameter. The '64-66 cars have a smaller diameter steering column. I guess maybe '68 hub would work on a '67. o No: Brian
And here is the '64-66 Chevelle 2 spoke wood wheel hub. Notice there is no slot. This should be fairly easy to machine into the hub and it's the correct diameter.
67-68 sport wheel hubs are the same. Kind of in between, larger than 64-66 because of 67-68 built-in hazard flashers, but smaller than 69 and newer which werw larger yet due to ignition key on column. Henry
Used a repro 68 hub (got it from the Parts Place) on my 65 to mount the sport wheel. Yes this hub is just a bit bigger than column but it is quite a bit smaller than the 69 - 72 hub. The 68 hub can be turned down in a lathe if the difference bothers you as there is plenty of material. The 69 - 72 hubs can not be turned down enough to use unless you add more metal which Jerry Sally in CA does. This only works on non-tilt columns. The tilt columns use a roller pin to cancel the turn signals and a separate mechanism for the horn.
i machined mine ( mid 70's regal wheel ) down some twelve years ago to fit my 66 . easy to do if ya have access to a lathe , i didnt have any issues with material .this guys price seems very high to me for what little work to do .send me your hub and i'll do it cheaper. notice my avatar
I know this thread is a year old but i am doing this process with my late Sport Wheel on my 65 Wagon.I bought the 65 Corvette hub for 50.00 and it is the correct 3.75 diameter as the 65 Buick Skylark columns. All I have to do is pop it in the mill at a friends house and it will work perfectly. The price of the guy doing this does seem very high for a simple machine process. It is crazy to turn down a whole hub when there is a simple and much cheaper way to do this......Brians second option is definitley the easiest and can be done in five minutes once you have the correct 65 Hub.
