I'm not sure but I'd appreciate any info on replacement mirrors (actual glass)... some dumbass who looked just like me broke it
First you need to make sure they are real buick sport mirrors. Use the cast numbers for the gasket, mirror base and mirror head to make sure. Many people are selling other sport mirrors claiming they are buick and in fact are not. If they are, it also depends on if all items needed to mount are included in the sale.
Check out these guys, http://burcoinc.com/redi-cuts-catalog/ I looked up a 70 Camaro. Measure your mirrors. One of these will work.
That dumbass must be as handsome as me! I busted mine too. Fumbled the mirror at the 1 yard line. Three feet to the ground from the door mount. Use the chart above. The CORRECT glass will have a FAINT number etched into the top of the face (see pic). Theres a left and a right. Youll need to verify by diagonal measurement, so double check. The one pic shows the 4 mounting tabs on the swivel. Its press and play so be sure its correct before the "press" part happens! The mirror mount is BUICK SPECIFIC. The angle is set by the rubber (or black plastic wedge) that the mirror mounts against. Some are "close" but even off a little will look bad. Honest. Camaro and later convex passenger side mirrors ARE NOT CORRECT. These guys don't list a 1972 Buick sport mirror so IIRC I ordered one for a '70 camaro and it was purdy darn close. You can always call and talk to a human to be sure. Have the measurements handy! Mine fit good on the '72 so if you want THEIR number, let me know! ws
Sometimes I question my own sanity... what'd I just say??? I just took this a moment ago. Drivers side...ws
Where did you get your mounting gaskets? I've got the dreaded "inward tilt" because mine do not have enough angle to them. Any help appreciated. Take Care
Best kept secret ever (Shhh!) They actually came with my mirrors from a pal here, byt were still off a tad. That was corrected with a table mounted belt sander. I just fiddled with them until they looked right. As a suggestion, look around for a computer geek with a 3D printer and give him a wood mock up, it'll take 10 minutes each on the 3 axis printer. You can also try finding some 1/2" black plastic at a model shop and use yours for a template. There may just be enough left on yours to whittle them down too. The other problem that haunts guys is the outside door handles leaning too. Those are Buick specific. Stuff like that bugs me, so I now have correct new (nice chrome!!) handles with crappy fitting gaskets. Had to make those too. I try to make my own stuff when feasible. Look at the handles... First is wrong and second is correct. Take a look at this! ws
Thanks Bill, I thought about the 3D printer idea as well. I have two more sets of the gaskets so I'm going to play around this winter and see what I come up with. Take Care & HAPPY THANKSGIVING down there!
If you have access to a 3D printer you've got the makings of a nice little cottage industry there! Theres always "unobtanium" plastic stuff needed. Start with that '69(?) big car grill center tri-shield, stupid radio knobs, and even side marker light base gaskets (theyre always $$$). Set up for 100 pcs and crack a brewski! ws
