Speedometer Head fix?

My mechanic installed my new speedometer cable on my 56 Roadmaster. Speedo worked, but would catch some and he was afraid it would just break again. He did squirt some lube into the head before installing the cable. Some set of tools he had that was made for that.

So one would assume the head is lubed well, as is the cable. Any ideas?

There is a tech service bulletin for this from 56. While this may not be the problem, it says that one cause is distortion of the instrument cluster. The fix is to loosen the 4 screws holding the speedomenter to the cluster, and then with light pressure adjust the cable side backwards ( towards the front of the car). I would consider this to be a possibility if you have ever had the instrument cluster out of the car for anything.

Thanks, I plan to pull the dash pad soon, when I take the interior in to get redone and I do the carpet. I'll see what I can do.
