What is the correct speedometer gear, and where do I get it, for my 71 Stage 1? I am going to use 15" tires, Muncie M22 tranny (already rebuilt). I remember being told that there are several colored gears (pink???) for our cars.

    Thanks.

Len. I got my gears from a local shop that specializes in speedo calibration and rebuildig speedos . I would check with the local chev dealer for the part in a chevelle . You would be using the factory size tires, available transmission, so he should be able to provide you with a gear . If not I would check with Chevelle resto websites for the part .

buick driven gears are bigger diameter than cheby

I was looking to change the speedo gear in my chevy th350 which was about 1 1/2" diameter but the buick th350 speedo gear was about 3" diam.
A chevy dealer ordered one for my buick a few years ago, but I supplied him with the part number from an old buick parts book.

    Len,

    1971, 4spd, 15in tire

Drive gear = 19 teeth color code natural
Driven gear = 8 teeth color code natural
natural + fluid = pinkish tint

Just food for thought plus a good starting point.

Also depends on the gear ratio I am guessing 342's
