There are two small plastic gears inside my speed alert speedometer. Both of them have gotten brittle and fell apart. Has anyone had any luck in replacing these gears? I already have the speedometer apart and have taken the gears out.

    Thanks for the help!

You have a pic of the gears in question? I've got a '70 speed alert speedo, and there's a '69 Riv in a local yard that I think has a speed alert speedo.

I don't have a pic but I could get one after a couple of days or so. They are two small white plastic gears, about 0.5" wide(OD).

Right behind the speedo face? I'll look at my '70 speedo tonight.

yea, I think it's sandwiched right behind the face. One cracked into about 2-3 pieces and the other isn't far behind.

    Thanks!

Mine has two plastic gears sandwiched behind the face and the speedo mechanism, about 3/8 diameter...how do you get the speedo needles off the front?

I do remeber that being a challenge. It's been 3-4 years or more since I took it apart(man I've been "working" on this car for a long time). I'll have to look at it again to see how I took it apart. I'll get it this weekend; all that stuff is at another house.

Ok, after looking at everything I remembered what I had done. I 1st attempted to remove the needles but figured I'd just break something so instead I was able to just remove the two screws holding on the face, pull off the red knob that's on the back of the shaft with the gear on it. After than knob is off you can push up on the shaft which enables you to take out the two removable gears. I just lifted up on the face enought to remove the gears.

Here are some pictures of everything:
