I'm trying to find out if this car really is a freak! After what Duane and a few others have said I AM NOT modding this car at all! It will be better off in the hands of someone who can care for it and appreciate it for it's rarity--- not 'cause it's a big ol' convertible (why we bought it.) It is a 1971 GS 455 conv't. with orig. matching# engine and trans. and a SCO 526 on the cowl tag. All options but 8-track, cruise and rear defog. far as I can tell. Please post up if you have a documented one or know of one.
There's a '72 in east Texas, but I'll have to let the owner decide whether or not he wants to tell about it. He's on this board, so I'm sure he'll see this thread.
Is it a black car, by any chance??? I talked to him too at one point and we found it was a real one. That makes two. If the car you are talking about is NOT black, then that would make three out there. Tim
It's been a while since I've seen it, but I seem to remember it being dark green. At least I know it was dark colored.
Maybe I missed something, but I didn't think it was that rare to have a convertible with buckets and a center console. My 68 has the buckets, center console, floor shifter, AC, PW, PB, PS, speed alert and the dash clock. The only thing I added was a correct AM/FM radio. No cruise or power seats though. Dan :3gears:
That's how mine came from the factory. Car also has a/c, power disc brakes. I have added a tach/gauge package and a 1970 passenger side mirror. I also have a map light rear view mirror to install and a 1970 8-track player with harness I've yet to put in. I don't see any harm in installing period correct options to my car.
Buckets and console were not supposed to be available from the factory in '71 or '72 on a Skylark or GS convertible, hence this thread.
Ahhhh, so I did miss something. See what I get for not keeping up on the onfo ou: ou: Thanks for setting me straight before I said something stupid :TU: Dan :3gears:
Re pics of the 71 bucket... look over here Chris posted some up for me on the "Just bought a 71 GS... thread a few down from this one. So this far into the search THIS pictured 71 may be the ONLY 1971 (1971) to have come FROM THE FACTORY with bucket seats (power driver side) a floor shift and a console??? Wow. Please see my post in the cars for sale forum or call me at 815-459-6491. Tom
