SP1 Intake on 455 in 66-67 Skylark

Is anyone running the SP1 intake on their 455 swap in a 66-67 Skylark? I have a 67 Skylark, an SP1 intake and a 455 and am in the research phase of my swap. I know hood clearance is tight and I'd like to keep the stock hood so hoping it will work. Long term I'm looking to do a MPFI conversion and would have the intake drilled for injectors.

    Thanks,
    Rick

It might depend on your motor mount set up. On my previous '67 GS I ran that intake with stock mounts and a drop base K&N drop base air filter. It was a tight fit but it did clear.
If your running a TA mm set up it might be a different story, I can't say for sure. Somebody will chime in, i'm sure. Good luck!

Thanks Nick! I'll most likely end up using the TA frame pads and matching mounts. I may have to look into low profile throttle bodies as well...

I am pretty sure it will fit. I had read of a post about a guy claiming it fit his 66' with a drop base air cleaner. I have one and plan to install it on my 66'. I have Poston mounts which are quite similar to TA ones. I am running a Poston intake with a 3/4" spacer and still clear my hood with a 3" filter using a GM L88 14" base. From the measurements I made comparing my Poston intake with spacer to the SP1 it looks like they will be almost identical in height. I have attached images of my L88 base and one underneath showing clearance to my Quadrajet. You can see my spacer. I have also run that spacer with a 1/4" thick base gasket and it still fit. The air cleaner is very close to the hood skin though.

    Greg,

Thank you for the info and pictures, that is helpful and much appreciated! BTW, I have enjoyed following the builds of your 66 and wife's 67 (my 2 favorite years and I have one of each as well).

FYI, the drop base is the way to go, but don't kill performance with a flat air cleaner top. There needs to be some room above the carb for air flow.

I use K&N's "flow control" air cleaner on my Wildcat, it is also a drop-base, but waaaaay smooth approach, and the lid is designed to compliment the base. Super close fit, so close I had to shorten a nub on the hood spear.

Also, I know people have used those K&N tops with the filter built in, but seem to remember reading that there weren't gains to be had, but losses in some cases, so keep that in mind too.
