Will a B&M Shift Kit for a 65-78 TH400 work in an SP400??. I would like to Put a B&M Mega ratchet shifter and shift kit into my 64 Riv. B&M does not list anything for SP Tranny. Does anyone know if these items will work?? Thanks o No: :TU:
The ST-400 switch pitch is a THM 400 with a different input shaft, front pump, ands converter. That shift kit should install just fine.

Buick called their version of the THM400 the (S)uper(T)urbine 400. The valvebody parts will install, no problem. Ratchet shifter, can't help you with that one. IMHO, you are better off just setting up the governor so the trans will shift Wide open where you want it to, your choice

They don't make a shift kit for a '64 TH 400 as it is the 1st. year for the 400 trans. & the valve bodys & cases are different. This is a one year only set-up & DOES NOT have a switch-pitch. It can be made to work to shift much better but you need to know what holes to drill & make larger, what springs to stretch & how much & which holes need to be plugged. It's not a 10 minute job but can be done.
Tom, I figured if he had a switch pitch, he had put it there from a later year trans. Not sure. The 64 trans is an orphan.
I guess I am kinda screwed then huh. Is there anything I can do to improve the shifting in the car. I mean I can't power brake, it comes out of 1st at less than 3000 rpm, and holds second maybe 3500. It keeps pulling in 3rd though, I got her to 100 and had room for more. Any suggestions guys would be greatly appreciated. As the title says 14.0 or bust. I am sure you guys have posted a million things on the site, but it is great that you keep helping us newbies out - Thanks :beer
