Some of you may have seen my post on the loud exhaust I installed. It is a Torque Tech 2.5" dual system from the manifolds back. It has the long case DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers.

It is loud enough that I was thinking of taking it off...... :Brow:

However, I did like the performance it gave, so I looked for another solution.

Decided to pull the interior out and give the car the Dynamat treatment: The Extreme foil backed stuff on the front floorpans, and the regular DynaMat stuff on the rest of the floors and the trunk devider.

Man, the sound reduction in the car is absolutely amazing!!!!!!

The interior is not as hot too.....

It was well worth the 3 hours and $250 to do it.

If you are redoing your interior, or want some sound reduction, DynaMat is the balls!

    Paul,

If you do some searching, you'll find a few threads on this topic. One of them includes a spray that you can use on areas such as the doors, beneath the panels, that looks like it would help too.

I'm surprised that you think the 2.5" system with the long case dynomax mufflers is loud. I had the TA system with them on my 71 GS455, and it seemed quiet to me. Last night Rick H and I fired up my 72 Skylark with the same mufflers (and no tail pipes behind them), and I thought it was pretty quiet still. I had just come back from the BOP races though - so my judgement may have been skewed.

I took on a similar project. But opted for a bigger AMP and speakers. Quiets muffler I ever had. [cherry bomb] :)

I toyed with this idea when I did the carpet and ripped out the interior in my convertible. I wanted to keep at least SOME of the noise out of the car, considering convertibles are freakin loud anyway.

I looked at the dynamat and decided it was too rich for my blood. I would've spent a small fortune on the material! So I opted for some thick carpet padding from my local carpet store for FREE and it seems to work rather well! But I still can't help the wind noise on the roof going down the highway:spank:

On a serious note if your gonna extra pad a daily driver you should do some rust protection work. In the last 3-4 GMs I have owned the floors rusted from the inside out more then the other way. GM uses a rubber backed carpet that is not 100% water proof so water n moisture get down below the carpet and into the pad. And then it sits there keeping the metal wet.

I got some 1/2" (not that wimpy 1/4") Carpet underlay from a local upholstery cut-n-stich shop, put it down on the floorboard, then a layer of that aluminum/bubblewrap/aluminum insulation, then the new carpet, which had the 1/4" pad glued to the footwell areas.

Also put the 1/2" pad and aluminum insulation under the rear seat and behind the rear seatback, and under the new rear window shelf.

Also sprayed the insides of the quarter-window area with rubberized insulation (just like undercoating), then put the aluminum insulation over the rubber pooky while it was still tacky.

The whole sound-insulating thing cost me about $50. Ask your upholstery shop for scraps! Made a HUGE difference in interior noise!!! :bglasses: If I could just figure out how to get rid of the wind noise around the A-pillars...

The next place I'm sound-proofing is the trunk sides and floor, but that's a whole 'nother project...
