I needed to make an extension cord for my welder. So I figured the best place to go for the materials would be an electrical supply. Man, am I glad I left that place to check out home depot! :Dou:

I wanted 30' of #10 guage, 3 conductor stranded power cord, their price was $2.59 per foot.......Home Depot price was $1.46.

The 50 amp 3 prong male plug at the electrical supply was $27......home depot price was $14.75. Same exact Pass & Seymour item.

The female receptacle was $24 at the electrical supply......$8.99 at Home Depot, again same exact item.

Not just that......there would only have been 6' of cord left on the roll, so the guy at Home Depot gave me the full 36' for the price of 30'. :Brow: This really goes to show that it pays to shop around. :)

It's cool that the guy gave you the last bit, but be careful with Home Depot, Walmart, etc.

Those stores often strike deals with the manufacturers to get lessor quality items with the exact same part number. This happened to a coworker with a brand name faucet at Home Depot. Same box, model number, etc.

He didn't learn what happened until a few years later when he went to replace the cartridge... it wasn't replaceable.

I'd think with wire, however, it might be hard for them to do that.
