Here's the email I got from "service@paypal.com". I clicked on the link and it wanted me to enter in ALL my info again: credit card info, bank account info, bank routing number, social security number, etc. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!! I forwarded this to spoof@paypal.com. I just tried to click on the link again and the page couldn't be displayed. I hope that by just clicking on the link I didn't do something wrong. I DID just do some odd transactions with PayPal thaqt I'd never done before, which is why I thought it might be legit. But I know ebay and PayPal will NEVER ask you to reenter all oyur data.

I received a similar email a few months ago. The text of my message was very similar to yours. I also forwarded it to the "Spoof Police". I never heard back from them. I never verified any information with Paypal...I figured if it was important and legit, that they would get in touch with me again, but they never did. I never had any problems, and my account is still active and working. :Do No:

I get them on an email account that isn't linked to ebay or paypal. I always ignore them.

I got several similar ones from CitiBank, who I've been banking with for years. I deleted it immediately.

I know Yardley knows this, but this is for the rest of you -

    1) NEVER STORE your login and passowrd information for anything sensative. If Windows, or the particular site, asks "Do you want to Store this info for future use" ....or something like that....ALWAYS SAY NO !!!!

Sure its a pain to remember and type all this stuff everytime you go to a site, but the consequences are much worse if you do.

Its quite possible that these "Spoof" emails that ask you to go to a certain site can directly read stored login names and passwords stored on your computer - and then your SCREWED !!

    2) Most, If not all, sites that you have accounts for will NEVER ask you to verify information through an Email. If you get Emails like Yards listed - Ignore them at the least.....call the company and ask if its legit at the most.

    3) ALWAYS look for a gold key on the lower right hand portion of the Internet Explorer window when conducting OnLine Transactions. This shows that the site is using the Windows 128 bit encription scheme built into Windows. It doesn't necessarily mean its totally safe, but I would never EVER enter personal information, let alone Credit Card numbers, and let it be sent over the Internet to a site that doesn't use this encription security.

    4) Passwords - NEVER use the same passwords over and over again. Always pick something that is at least 8 characters long.....if not longer. DO NOT use current info, like your street name, as a password. A Street name from 30 years ago....or your phone number when growing up (and not in use now) are good ones. OOOllldddd information that you'll never forget are good things to use. Dont use your current dogs name....use your childhood dogs name - or your neighbors dogs' name when growing up. Stuff you know and wont forget, but info almost no one else knows.

    5) Change your passwords - this sux,....but you HAVE to do it. I change everything at least once every 6 months.

There's another PayPal email going around right now that will download a virus onto your harddrive if you click the link. I'd be doing a scan if I was you.

There are a ton of new viruses out there that spoof the sender and just by opening the email cause you big trouble. I use mailwasher to preview all my email that isn't caught by Yahoo's spam guard so I can delete it without it ever getting to my inbox. I only download to my inbox anything I need to respond to or save.
