I bought this NOS hood latch support piece a few years ago. It was supposed to be for a '70 skylark/gs, part number is 1231399. Thing is when I took my old one off and I'm pretty sure my old one is for a 70 as all my parts cars have been 70's, there was a slight difference between this NOS piece and the one off my car. The difference is that this NOS piece has an oval hole between the holes where the grill stud goes and the pull handle goes and my old one does not have this oval hole. So what is the correct application for this piece so that I can keep it or pass it on. I also found that there is no hole where the hood release should go. Looking at my old one it seems that it was drilled for the hood release to bolt on, in other words this piece aparently does not come from the factory with the holes in place, the holes must be measured and drilled.

Group 8.080. That is the correct 70 number so they must have made a slight revison of the part based on experience. Just in case someone does not know the 70 is not the same as a 71-72.

so then the pic looks correct, with the oval hole. I'll have to look for part# on the other one. Can someone post a pic of the 71-72 style and give part #.
