I have a 1955 Buick Special 4 door and I cant figure out how to remove the bottom pieces of chrome from the rear windowshield. I was able to remove the top pieces that had little screws but now I am stuck at this point as I dont see any screws or nuts . there is a small approx 1" piece of chrome in the middle and then there are 2 pieces that go out from there. Also there are the small pieces that go up the side of the window. I must remove these so i can sand and paint but I dont want to break them by man handling them. Someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I have owned a '55 Special four door hardtop, and a two door hardtop, and both of them had mouldings around the rear window that were trapped by a "lip" on the moulding detween the body and the rubber gasket for the window. They also had an adhesive from the factory to help hold them in place. Not on all pieces of "chrome" were like this, however. Some were held by screws, others by studded clips attached to the mouldings. The four door sedans are different, I'm sure. The shape of their rear window is different, at least. If I had the car in front of me, I could probably figure it out. I unfortunately don't, and have never dealt with a four door sedan. Wish I could help more. -Zach

It's usually called a reveal molding and has hidden clips to hold it in place. Requires a special tool to remove. A local body shop could show you how it is used and tell you where to get it.

Find a body shop that has a guy working there with white hair and get him to do the taking the molding out. It will be money well spent. Naturally you want to watch so you will know how next time the isssue comes up.

I have a 56 2 door sedan. To remove the rear screen exterior trim I firstly removed the interior trim mouldings to expose some fine threaded nuts for the top exterior trim. The rear screen exterior side trim was also retained by fine threaded nuts, accessible in the lower corners near the parcel shelf.
The lower trim is held on by clips that sit over the body window frame and basically "hook" the trim. From memory the lower trim came off last. Once the side pieces were off, they weren't to hard to remove, and with considerable care was able to remove them by sliding the trim along the clip towards the sides of the car. There is probably a lot of dirt stuck between the trim and the clips so compressed air or high pressure hose may loosen them up. It could also be done by levering the trim off the retaining clip with a wide bladed tool and a cloth. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advise on removing chrome from back window. I have
removed the top piece that had the tiny screws but I am now going to attempt the short side pieces and then work on the lower pieces. Do you remember if you remove the tiny piece (aprox 1 inch) in the center first; on the lower bottom piece???
Thank in advance for all the help

The 56 doesn't have the inch piece on the lower trim, one just overlaps the other. My front screen has the inch piece though. I would imagine you can just slide either the left or right lower trim end out of the centre piece as this is basically just a join cover.

Thanks to all!!!!! We got the trim off and now can start to sand that area and get it sealed up. It was not in bad shape. The metal clips are trash but that is to be expected. Anybody got a few laying around???????

    Well done. [IMG]
I don't have clips but will need some as well. I have been checking some of the ebay stores but nothing specific yet. If need be I will try 55 or 56 Chev sedan clips. Must be similar and easier to find.
