Started mowing lawns when I was 11. The first year I only had two customers, so it wasn't that hard, except that the lawn mower weighed as much as I did. At 13 I had a paper route and I taught kids how to swim, cut grass in the summer, shoveled snow in the winter. I was also a Boy Scout and was on the swim team (summer and winter) so I didn't have much time to goof off. I later became a lifeguard, and did everything I mentioned above. When I got to college, though, I only lifeguarded in the summer. Then I became a banker after college and now I'm a railroader (lot of good college did).
I started delivering papers when I was about 13. Hated it with a passion...all the collecting crap bugged me..sooo off to Burger King I went! That was a great time. I was 14 and running equipment that I was not supposed to and having a blast! Made $2.85 an hour. Started driving tractors for farmers when I was 16 to "disc" their fields, that was also a gosh dang good time. The dirt and freedom! And they actually paid me $6.00 an hour (under the table) to have that much fun. Started working for a Toyota dealership at age 17 sweeping floors and emptying the shop trash for $5.00 an hour (oh ya, I had a 2 year technical certificate for automotive technology from a career center, and no one was hiring for techs)...fast forward 14 years, and I run the service department and have 30 employees! Ain't that crazy???
