    american racing outlaw II's.

    all around 15x8, 5x4.75, 3.75 backspacing

i believe i'll mount 275x60's on the rear and 245x60's on front...rears will be pretty meaty and be bigger in height to a slightly noticable degree...and 245's should clear for turning, right? with the stock backspacing, this will also make sure i don't rub the suspension or exhaust, and it should be near flush with the outer edge of the well. diameter won't be too much, will it? (28")

speaking of width, by my measurements, i'll have about 1.25 inches on the outside and 2.25 on the inside with these wheels...which means with an 10.5-11" inch tire i should be about to the edge. if i had an 8" wheel with 4.25" BS, that would be about optimal...could likely make 295's fit.

but anyway, just want to confirm that this will work, and ask if anyone would advise going to 16's? wheels will be a little more expensive, and tire sizes get more limited AND more expensive...will anyone really notice the difference? with greater BS on most 16" wheels, i could also get closer to that perfect balance...

i've pretty much decided on 15x8/15x7 and 275/60's and 245/60's. can anyone give me ANY info on in i will run into any problems (3.75" BS), and tell me if i should bother with getting the different wheel width (will either fit or perform better than the other)? would like some comments to assure myself, especially since i'm looking at ordering both wheels and tires off the web. (even with shipping i can get under 300 bucks, locally it'll be close to 400 plus the 8.25% tax...yow)

btw (talking to myself) i've decided on the outlaw I's which are the same wheel but it's complete solid like an auto-drag.

The best thing about talking to yourself - you always win the arguments!

I have always used a 235/60-15 on the front of my 70 Skylark - on a 15X7 rim.

If you do go with the 15X8's, it would be nice to find some with a 4.25" BS. If you're sure the tire will clear with a 3.75"BS, go for it.:)

yeah, i've nailed 4.25 as about optimal backspacing on 8" wheel, but the extra half inch on the outside shouldn't hurt, i think. i'm going to be adding 2 inches to the outside of the wheel and not really any extra beyond that (sidewalls should stick out about 1.5" still, about the same as 215's on 6" wheels). with our cars' fat wheel wells i think it'll be okay...there's a LOT of room outside my current wheels. you wouldn't recommend a 7" wheel width on the back, would you? will the big tire width fit well?

I think the guys that are running 10" wide rims in the back are using either 4 7/8" or 5" BS. They DO run into a certain amount of tire rubbing on the outer wheel wells. When you go that big, you can count on 'rolling' the inside.

Sounds like you've done all your measurements - based on that, I'd think you would be OK with your plans for those rims.:TU:

My brother used to have a set of rims just like those on his 76 Regal - they were only 15X7 though. He only ran 235/60's though.

good god man you think i trust my measurements? :error: :TU:

i could go with 15x7's all around to be safe, but i guess this is my last question - would i be better off with the larger tires mounted on 15x8's, or does it really matter?

btw thanks for the help scott - you always seem to be around to catch my questions.:beer

David - The 15X7's would be a 'safer' choice.:) Look at all the guys racing with the factory 5 spoke rims with tires such as the 275/60's or 50's!! They don't seem to have any clearance problems! They do seem to have the right 'look' with those wider tires!:TU:

Look at it this way - if you decide to sell those rims 'down the road' and upgrade to something else, they will fit just about ANY GM RWD car with the same bolt pattern(most cars and some trucks)!!

i think you're right, i'll just do the 'safe' choice. a lot of guys use a 235 and 265 setup on factory 15x7's and they look good and perform well. i'll just do that becuase i kinda like the look (not to mention price and weight) of a lot of aftermarkets better, but i can utilize the same setup.

David - What area of Nashville are you in?

    Just curious I guess.:)

My uncle lives on the northern side of town (off exit 108). My brother and I always stay there when we go to the GS Nats. We try to go into downtown at least once - hit The Spaghettti Factory, walk around, etc.

We almost watched a tugboat operator(driver training?) ram 3 barges into the bridge and/or the bank this year!:eek2: Twice, he had to go 'full throttle' up stream to avoid collisions! He was probably going too slow, since he was going downstream.

Are there any decent junkyards down there - for older cars?

i could ask you the same question:Dou:

i bought my car earlier this year, and it makes it the first time i have a need (and a want.:Brow: ) to go yarding...i havn't yet gotten around to checking any of the places out...there are a lot, i just don't know if any of them contain hidden treasures.:)

I'm in Binghamton, NY - hour south of Syracuse, and about 4 hrs. west of NYC. Not the tourist area like Nashville!

tourist, ha! they tore down our amusement park and put up a mall. our downtown is like 5 blocks wide. and i don't like football.:Do No:

the best activity i could muster tonight was going to see scooby doo.:pp

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

I couldn't believe that they actually did that!!!:Dou: Tear down Opryland Amusement park and put up a huge mall - go figure! I'll bet the mall is making money though!!:Brow:

Several years ago, we went on a dinner cruise on the Gen. Jackson from Opryland. Would have been much better if I was there with a girlfriend, instead of my brother and uncle!! Oh well...can't knock a free dinner!:TU:
