Well, in case y'all couldn't tell, I'm into Rivs. Specifically, the Boattail years, my preference bein' the '72. I own two right now, but I'll be selling one come spring. The one I'm selling isn't running right now, so over the winter, I'll be troublshooting it, getting it spruced up, etc. The new one I purchased lives in Memphis, but'll be coming here to Washington State at the end of January. It has the bucket seats, and cruise control, but no console shift. Ah, well. Okay, here's my wish list to start, lemme know if you can help me out. I'm looking for the passenger side view mirror for my '72 Riv, and the console setup (Linkage, etc.) for it as well. I work at Napa, so I've access to their catalogs, if you're interested. My immediate plans for the new Riv are an HEI Conversion, Edelbrock Performer Intake while keeping the stock Quadrajet in place, and some coated shorty headers courtesy of TA Performance ($600.00, weep, WAIL!). I'm also looking at getting the new Riv undercoated and having an alarm installed. Long Term: I've a '70 long block, complete from intake to oil pan. I'm planning on a 9-10:1 engine with a "stock" idle, but I want to pull 400+ ponies. I'm open to suggestions there, I've already got heads being worked for Stage 1 valves (stainless) but what else? Cam suggestions would be helpful, as I plan on retaining the Edelbrock intake, Q-jet carb and headers. Oh yeah, when I installed the Edlebrock intake on my current (non-running) Riv, the A/C bracket didn't line up. What's the solution for that, guys? Man, there's a lot to read, and I could write more, but this'll be a good place to stop. Keep those beautiful Buicks rolling!

Welcome to the board, you've found the right place for all your questions! Feel free to browse around, the search function will pull up tons of info, and if you don't find it, feel free to ask, there are lots of friendly Buick nuts here!

Looking at your plans, I'd say the general concensus is to forget the HEI, send your points distributor to Dave the IgnitionMan (that's his username, search in the "Sparky's Corner" forum on it.) and let him work his hei conversion magic, it'll be cheaper and run FAR better. You won't beat the Q-Jet carb on a Performer manifold, especially if it's one of the 850cfm ones, which I think yours should be. I've read that as far as heads, skip the big Stage 1 valves, and spend your money on some mild port/polish/cleanup, which you can do yourself. More bang for less buck. Standard Abrasives has a great writeup on their website. Headers are a great idea, but you're right, pricey. Cams, there's a topic and a half....read around, and talk to TA Performance and/or Poston's, they're very helpful.

To find parts, check out the "Pay it Forward" and "Parts for Sale" forums, you'll come across some good deals in time.

My advice is to spend some time searching and reading as much as you can, and ask questions!!! Wecome again!!!:beer :beer :beer

Good enough for anything you're doing. You can't beat a well built/tuned qjet.:TU:

    Hey James...

I work for Napa...so the HEI was cheap. ($60.00). I'm gonna do the whole "erase the Edelbrock name" from the intake, and rattle can it. Napa carries Buick Red/Orange in a rattle can, so it's going to look stock when I'm done. I checked out the comment about the needle guns, GREAT idea. The heads are getting done cheap too. The most expensive parts are the Valves, and I located a set for about $150.00. I'm also gonna get 'em powdercoated, 'cause I LIKE pretty! The heads'll be "worked" and I'll slap 'em on this spring, I reckon, onto the "old" block. Anything I need to look out for when doing the head swap?

    Adam:

I'm figurin' on it bein' at LEAST a 780 cfm unit, 'cause from what I understand, BB Buicks LOVE to breathe! I live in Renton, Washington, right near Carbs Unlimited, so when it's time to tune that puppy, I know where I'm takin' it! Also, later on, 2 1/2" mandrel bent duals with Spintech mufflers. Has anyone done the Spintech thing yet?

    Carbs Unlimited!:TU:

Good folks there....done a bit of business with them in the last year or 2.

Might want to do a search on the board for the spintech thing....there are a few members using them!

THAT'S why I keep hearing that "It only takes one hour a week" to be a Scout leader!!! I was wondering where that came from...

You know - right after we hang all the lawyers, maybe the sales/marketing guys should be next in line....
    (and I are one!!!:eek2: )

But this little guy  still cracks me up - kudos to whoever made it!

Whoops, there I go again, forgetting that written humor often isn't perceived as such...No offense intended, and not trying to start a floor of lawyer jokes...Just trying to poke fun at myself (a Marketing/Sales type person), with an obscure reference to a line from Shakespeare...Sorry about that!

And nope, the motto is still "Be Prepared!"

Awright, y'all. You've made me feel right at home. But the wife is gonna kill me if I finish any posting to this thread right now. Homework, and life, beckon. Later Daze...
