Small clip inside steering column (buzzer warning switch)

See attached photos where the small two-pronged buzzer switch is located. I am pretty sure I lost a clip inside the steering column when I tried to reinsert the switch after replacing the ignition cylinder. In order for this to work, I need the clip the holds the switch tight against the ignition cylinder.

Somehow, I also lost the turn signals/hazards during this process...so I am wondering if this switch being DOA is part of the issue with that, too.

Is there an exploded view of the column in this area somewhere?

Not sure I would assume that. Not sure of telescopic changes things. According to the Buick parts book-

Switch is 7804414 all LESS tilt wheel
    Clip- 7804419 all LESS tilt

Im not sure if the key buzzer has anything to do with why the directional and hazards are DOA now. You sure you didn't pop the fuse?

The clip floating around in the column would bug me...

Agreed but it is going to take a major effort to extract it.

I see the auction I posted is for tilt columns. Crap. Why would they include a clip with those and not the other ones that they have for non-tilt?

Contact George N. I needed one a few years ago and he had them.

There are 2 different clips . One is about 3/4 of a inch long and the other is about a inch and a 1/8 long or so . As stated one is tilt and the other is standard . I can look in my stash of stuff if you tell me which one it is

I think I need the shorter one. The one in the auction above is a tilt one, and appears to be a bit longer

Turn Signals can be tricky. IF they worked at one point and suddenly don't work (or one side does and the other side doesn't) wiggle the turn signal lever a bit. An old turn signal switch can put a guy in the "trick bag".
We've gotten to the point where if we're doing a Frame Off we simply replace the original turn signal switch. Seems like every other old car we work on we have issues with the turn signals and it usually comes down to an old warn out switch/harness.

But, check the fuse first! Lol

I do stock the Turn Signal Harnesses if needed.

The buzzer switch should NOT affect your turn signals. You could delete the buzzer and everything else will still work.

Yep, I agree with Todd. The little buzzer switch was causing problems for me so I took it out. Everything else still works fine.

The switch merely makes a contact and completes a circuit. If you look at the wiring on the directional switch, the pink and the black (which are by themselves) are for the key buzzer. So when you put the key in, a small tab pokes out of the bottom of the lock cylinder. That tab presses the two metal strips together completing the circuit. Once you turn the key, the tab recesses into the cylinder and breaks the contact. The key buzzer uses the directional switch but its separate and apart from the turn signals.

The key buzzer is awesome. Who doesn't love that GM buzzer noise when you open the door with the key in the ignition? Its part of the charm and character of a vintage GM car.

The reason I pulled it apart was to fix the buzzer. It was on 100% of the time when the door was open...regardless of key position.

I putzed with the signal switch tonight and it’s fine. Just finicky like Todd’s said. Waiting for that spring now...
