Anyone know how much a 350 buick weights compared to a 350 chevy with the same options? Thanks, Scott
buick 350 is 450lbs will be less with a aluminum intake 20lbs less? chevy 350 is 575lbs also has aluminum heads and intake available...i'm guessing would drop it to 500
Bitchin'! Ok why is the 215 3" wider than the 350! WTF OK at 450 all iron that 350 is amazing. Aluminum heads and intake more likeā¦ 400?? WOW!
Wow, I didn't know it was that much. The reason I'm wondering is my boy wants to race a hobby stock at a 3/10 mile track on sunday nights ( he, my other son and I all drag race on Sat. nite), and I thought a 350 buick with a cam upgrade and the extra torque would be a good choice for that class. Besides, it would go nicely with my rear engine Buick dragster and Buick powered Street rods. Scott
The iron intake is about 55 pounds so even with my steel sheetmetal X factor intake my iron headed 398 hp engine will be about 420 pounds plus fluids.
if we ever get aluminum heads for the 350 look out! we'd be pretty close to the weight of the aluminum 215 which weighs in at 350 lbs but probaly more closer to a stock buick 231 which is 375lbs
According to the TA performance catalog, their aluminum intake is 40 pounds lighter than the stock 350 cast iron one.
I'd defantly beleve that. the 350 intake is almost as heavy as the 455. and yes i did remove one alone leaning over the fenders. not fun or good for the back.
ok then 410 lbs with the ta alminum intake about 422lbs with the sheetmetal x-factor intake also note that the 350 headers are hell of alot lighter then the cast manifolds.. and if we ever get aluminum heads that's atleast another 50 which would be 360 mwahaha ps. mark you should weigh all the turbo stuff...would be cool to be around stock engine weight even with the tt kit
Aluminum Stage 1 weighs 16 lbs. Stock 350 weights: crank 50 pounds rods 12 pounds lifters 8 pounds heads 53 pounds each cam 7 pounds stk intake 53 pounds balancer 6 pounds timing cover with dist 8 pounds rockers and valve covers 6 pounds pistons 10 pounds block 160 oil pan 6 pounds. Stock 350 w/alum. intake just under 400 lbs.
Ok why is the 215 3" wider than the 350! WTF because apparently whoever put that list together didn't check their facts very thoroughly. note that the Nailheads are shown as the same dimensions from 322ci to 425ci? unpossible. the 425 and 401 share deck heights but the 322 is shorter. this means that the 322 is both narrower, lighter and shorter than the other Nailheads. in fact, the 322 shares the short deck height of the 264 engine. there is a "mid-deck" Nailhead at 364ci which this list would also be false for. that's 3 errors on one line.
Something to remember, next time you see someone stupid enough to challenge a Grand National to a race. :Brow: Bob
That's not the only issue. Look at the Ford part of the list. An FE is heavier than a Flathead? Gee, I guess all that R&D they put into making their engines lighter and more efficient was wasted time. The general gist that I've gotten over the years is that an SBC is about 100 lbs. heavier than an SBB, which weighs about the same as the SBF. 550lbs. vs. 450lbs. In fact, I believe I've seen several quotes over the years that show both the 350 Buick and the 351 Ford at about an additional 10 lbs. heavier (460lbs.), due mainly to their larger crankshafts. The STOVEBOLT SIX was around 570lbs.-580 lbs., so why would Chevy make a point about the then-new V8 being lighter than the older six, back in the 50's? ...hmmm... Bob
I think the interesting thing is the weight comparison to the 215 which is shown as 315 lbs. When you look at the 300 and 340, the 300 with alloy heads is about 80 pounds heavier so 395 according to a couple of builders I know who took the time to weigh it. All that extra weight is in the block and crank. So how can that possibly square with a 350 at 410lbs with an alloy intake and iron heads? Rule of thumb is about 30 lbs for each head and intake and something is not adding up here. there's at least 25 lbs not accounted for no matter how you add it up. I don't know if the actual weight of the 350 is more, if the 350 is lighter than the 340/300, or where the difference is, but it has to be there someplace. Jim
the 350 is lighter then then then 65+ 300s..(think 460 something) buick 300 64 with aluminum heads/intake weighs in at 400 buick 350 weighs at 450lbs buick 3.8 is 375lbs and ive read that the buick 215 is 315lbs
That's not the only issue. didn't say the Nailhead info was the only issue. i was just pointing out that if you've got 3 ridiculously false statements on one line then you should take the rest of the table with a huge grain of salt.
