z63.jpg z64.jpg z72.jpg z73.jpg Anyone speak Russian as in pre-revolution Russian? I picked up a 1915 Moissan-Nagant 7.62 X 5%5r bolt action rifle a at a garage sale. Its in fair condition with a chrome lied barrel. 1915 would've barely made WWI, then the Bolshevik revolution, and on to WWII Since this is a 1915 model it has the czarist proof mark below the matching (3-4 sets) of serial numbers. The Siberian windage is calculated in "Arshens". Is that a Russian metric equivalent?. This is an early version of the sniper units that were used in Stalingrad vs. the germans. see the flick Enemy at the Gate.
My pal collects these from Czech and Romanian builders from the mid 1950 for $100-150. this one being so early may be a different animal. Any input appreciated! Thanks... ws

"Arshens" is Slavic von Bolshivic slang for "Given zist gun to zee Fritz!"

They seem to be becoming popular. The guys in my club modify them. I know very little about them. As far as World war rifles, I only speak German:D:D

Yours is an original design 1891-1925 Russian M-91 from the Izhevsk (Russian) Arsenal.

Aint that a fine how do you do?? My pal (an avid collector too) informed me hat since the cold war collapse, the market was flooded with these (post 1929 ish models ?). NOS with cosmoline wrapping, and they were $50.00 each VHAT A DEAL! He added that being a pre USSR model and with the proof etc etc, the value may be substantially more. Russian ammo primers were NOT fulminate of mercury and something else that was highly corrosive. So, the bore was chrome plated to overcome the pitting and this one appears "clean" sans the dirt from not being fire for probably 75 years.

I bought it from some young guy that hits old auctions all the time. When I asked him if he knew what it was his reply was "some kinda Mauser or something". I spotted it from 10 feet away and knew it wasn't a Mauser. I think I did OK for $60.00; yay or nay?

Already have the NOS floormats John; I wished this were something else that you needed. I'm just gonna hang it on the rack with my M-1 and Model 12 Winchester. Whenever I do garage sales, "Ya hafta ask..." ws
