Well i come home Sunday and this computer is real slow . I emptied cookies , scanned it many , many times and it is still slow . Plus I cannot click on anyones picture links or Ebay links and have it open . Anyone with ideas that knows what they are doing ? Thanx p :TU:
By scan, do you mean for viri, or for spyware? If not the latter, try this: Spybot Search & Destroy. Its pretty good - if spyware is slowing you down. Spyware runs in the background and can, if you have enough of it, overwhelm your CPU and internet connection. Otherwise, make sure you have enough RAM, that your page/swap file is large enough (like twice the size of your actual RAM), and perhaps run scandisk, then defragment. More details would also be helpful.
Using "xoftspy ware " and a blocker also . I tried to click on your suggested link and I can't open it either .
I doubt this is the problem, but is your computer overheating? I accidentally blocked the fan on the back of my computer with a stack of papers and it was sluggish for weeks until I realized the problem. A hot computer gets very confused. Cleaned up the desk and everything went back to normal!!! ou:
Opps, forgot you can't open links. What if you type the URI into the address field? http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html Can you get to another machine to download it? It may not be spyware, but its worth a try. Did you make any changes to your computer lately? Install any programs?
I had trouble trying to log on to Spybot also. Instead, I used ADAWARE spyware. It's free, and it works. Go www.lavasoft.usa.com. Do it twice the first time. I got this info from Dell softwear support. You also said you'd emptied cookies. What about temporary internet files? Lots more "junk" there to slow you down. Good luck.
Use ctrl+alt+delete and look at the things there. If a few of them are "odd" as in "adsearch384" or something like that, write down the name of it then "end task". Ctrl+alt+delete again to make sure it closed then do a "find files" on the name and delete it if it turns out to be spyware. Sometimes ad scanners don't pick those things up.
