 Let me first explain the avatar picture is an ugly primer laiden 68 GS, 3 years ago i built the car from scratch, had alot o help.
The car ran low 11's with 150-155 60 foot times in the upper Mid-West, and rarely dipped in the 10's till we went to Cecil County last year for that awsome event. With the advantage of dense air because of the altitude the 68 ran its best 10.83 @ 120+
Over the last years i have added rear anti sway bar, taller slicks, and a trans brake, and got the car to run 11.00's in almost any weather condition with 145-150 , foots. Car weight in 3350 w/fuel and driver.
The motor is a 30 over iron headed stg 1, stock rods, crank, and Ross slugs, nice cam, HYDRAULIC CAM, and stock oiling system, no girdle.around 12-1 compression, stg-1 t/a headers, x-pipe, race muffys, basically a street engine.
    Rear end is a 9" ford w-3.89 gears-spool, and adjustable upper, with south-side lowers, 9" x 29.5 MT slicks.
Untill now i had run the car with no hood scoop, flat hood, i have been told that a stg-2 scoop is worth 1/10th, well with heads that flow 256 cfm + or -, i thought it was a waste of time.
But this winter i added the stg-2 scoop, and phenolic 2" carb spacer to the proform 925 carb. Last Sunday i finally had the chance to take the 68 to the track, at Mid-Michigan, with a altitude of 700 ft, test-n-tune track conditions, mid 70-s temp, i did some tuning....well...not really....i unloaded the car tecked, and made a pass....with 8mph cross winds the car ran a 10.85 @ 120+ with a 1.44 60 ft time, and still pulling like a freight train thru the trapps....:beer
The best ever in the Mid-West air, so the scoop and spacer is the way to go.......!!!!:TU:
This will be the 4th year, and with over 800 passes on the motor, 2nd tranny, and 2nd ring and pinion.many pairs of MT rubber....this little hydraulic motor continues to boggle my mind.
As a matter of fact i made 4 passes, the wind picked up to 20mph diagonal in my face crosswind, the car still ran a 10.94 @ 118+,AND THE 60'FT TIME STAYED AT 1.44 ALL DAY!!!The poor Chevy guys where whining about how the wind took 4/10's off their ET...(350 SBC roller motors), gee, i just had to brag on my Buicks only slowing barely over a 10th!!!:bglasses:
I hear alot of stories of BIG $$$$$$$ being spent on seroius Buick mills, and let me tell ya for not a TON of hard earned cash, persistence, and the right chassis set up anybody can have some serious fun, and run low maintainence. Many thanks to all who have helped me get my "budget race car" to where it is today, you all know who you are!!!
SEE YOU ALL AT NORWALK, I WILL BE THE PRIMER GRAY 68, COME OVER AND SAY HI!!! GOD HELP US BUICK NUTS!!!

    Nice Job Dave!

I'm struggling with the scoop idea myself.

What RPM are you coming through the traps with? Did the RPMs also increase with the addition of the scoop?

    Thanks.

    John

John, no changes at the tall end, i leave on the brake at 3200rpm shift at 6000, and go thru the traps 6200. The big improvement was my 1/8 mile 99.83, she normally runs 97-98 mph, i will play with the air bleeds at Norwalk and see if i can get it another 1 mph. This is the first time she has pulled that hard thru the traps...i feel there is more there. It is a good investment....even though the Stg-2 scoop is the UGLIEST thing that you can put on a Buick!!!
