Is it true the 350-4 in the Skylark custom was the same as the
GS 350? If not, what were the differences?

    Thanks:bglasses:

As long as it's apples to apples, ie the same year cars, then it's the same engine. There are some weird archives showing a different cam part number for the GS, but I believe that they are the same.

    David,
You really need to specify the year you are talking about. I assume you are inquiring about 1971. The 350-4V 9:1 compression, engine code TB, TD made 260 HP, and 360 ft.lbs. of torque. If your Skylark was ordered with the 350-4V, I would say it was the same. In 1970, there was a 9:1 engine (SB), and a 10.25:1 engine (SP). The lower compression motor made 285/375, and the higher compression motor made 315/410.

    Hi David -

I agree with Larry. All years except 1970 would have the same motor in the Skylark 350-4 and the GS350.

The GS was rated higher due to dual exhaust (I don't know if it was an option on the Skylark model) and the 'ram air' system.

The '70 also had different pistons to up the compression :)

    Thanks guys

The car I had in mind was a 72 convert. The owner claimed it was the same as the GS350 engine. It had a the 350-4 w/ duals.

I know the heads are basically the same (w/in model years) and the cams are the same so I figured it was true.

I should have clarified the year though.

    Thanks for the replies.................:)
