When I attended UGA in Athens, Ga. in the early '90s, there was a bar downtown that had a Sjoelbak table, and as a summer student and resident, I and several drinking buddies took advantage of the greatly reduced crowds to learn (sorta) how to play it. Tonight it struck me to look it up (I guessed at the spelling, but found it), read a little of its history, and thought I'd ask. Anyone? Patrick
Sjoelbak is the Dutch word for the actual board, the game is called "Sjoelen". It's a Dutch game. There was a time when almost every family in the Netherlands had a sjoelbak. Nowadays children like to play computer games. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wf22S8U-Qqs?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Erik, thanks for the info; we were playing it right! Good to know. The bar's table was a good bit larger if memory serves, but I might have to get one the size of the video's for home. It really is a fun game. The cool thing is that skill isn't required for it to be fun, but skill doesn't make it boring either. (Not that I ever got skilled at it). Patrick
