I did a search here and only found pics of rear speakers for sale or aftermarket setups. Does anyone have a pic of the single factory speaker setup in a hardtop A-body?

My Skylark had an AM radio from the factory. I have a refurbished Buick 8-track and a rear speaker kit to go with it. I'd like to have it look correct.

    Thanks for any help.

If you had a base interior you got the solid package tray with a speaker grill. If you had deluxe interior you got the mesh package tray.

I wish I could see one as well. I can tell you there was only one wire going to it. 70-72 it was blue and ran down the passenger floorboards under some different looking paper like material that was under the sound deadener. Mine is still there. I bet 69 was the same.

The rear tray material available with the mesh is all you will see when installed per factory. I'm thinking '71 but as Dave mentioned '69 may have been similar.
If you need a new rear speaker get one from the dealer for an '82 Electra.
    These are Gr. 9.665 # 16177769, 10 ohms.
I bought two new a couple years ago. One in the car, one on the shelf as a spare.

I bought an NOS rear speaker kit from a member here, so I have all the right wires and stuff. It's a blue lead on the 69's as well. The assembly manual was a little vague ( I don't have it in front of me). It looks like it goes on the drivers side rear.

So with the base interior solid tray I use the speaker cover. Is it supposed to be painted to match?

The Custom interior uses the mesh tray and no cover. The speaker fires up through the holes in it. Correct?

Yes in my case the tray/grill are blue. It's on the passenger side.

I believe they were all on the passenger side. The speaker wire ran down that side probably not to get interference from the main harness on the drivers side.

    Excellent. :TU:

I checked both the assembly and service manuals and nothing is mentioned on the rear speaker, so this helps a lot.

Thank you everyone for your help.

does anyone have a line on the mounting studs and nuts? I would love to get a set. If someone needs the blue wire a guy on the boards makes them as well. PM me for his info.

The parts place has the studs listed under new products.

    Steve,
So I need a rear speaker and just wonder the best way to handle this project. Also not sure if you have 2 wires to teh back or one. I have an original radio and the one blue wire running back to trunk. Does the speaker have 2 prongs on it? which one do I plug into? Will it not work with just one speaker wire? Thanks

Good question as the factory did only use the one blue wire. Maybe the speaker was grounded from contact with the rear shelf? maybe if the original radio was used in stock form this will work?

The speaker you buy must be 8-10 ohms in order to work with the original radio.
My NOS speakers (circa 1981) have a connector on them that was current in the early '80's.
I simply grabbed a connector from a junkyard GM-almost anything will do.
The connector may be a little different but the wiring is the same.
The blue from the rear RH side of the radio goes to the + side of the speaker.
The - side of the speaker goes to ground. I simply put a ring terminal on the wire & secured it with the nut/bolt used to mount the speaker.
I use these 1/4-20 X 1" carriage bolts with nuts to mount the speaker.

Warning: Do not turn on the radio unless you have either the fader installed or the small factory jumper still in place. Unpleasant things will happen to the radio otherwise.

If you get the correct ohm speaker from turn switch they include a jumper for use with a single connector. If you don't need a speaker i may have one of the jumpers left over, i can send you .
Basically you are grounding the negative speaker terminal.
