I was just saying today what an awesome commercial that was when it came on during the game. That son rocks...his dad's reaction was priceless.

I love the part where he said they changed the mufflers, you know he knows his car intimately.

  4. that is so cool, wish i could do something like that for my dad someday

I saw that the first time a week or so ago, the short version. Now, I'm a Ford guy but this goes beyond brands, This is totally relate-able by every single one of us because of the passion we have for these cars. And whoever the genius is that found this story and used it as a commercial, needs to be ad-man of the century. :beer

I figured the commercial on TV was just made up. If this does not put a feeling in your stomach...... Very touching. Thanks for showing this Donny, made my day.

Did the one son say it took 5 years to track it down?? They should have asked Steve Arp to track it down:TU:

A little background information on this ad. This was a true story and none of it is fake or "recreated", is was all done in real time. The son works for Chevy marketing and his dad thought they were filming some park scenes for some background scenes. That explains why there was a camera there filming everything. He had no idea at all what was about to happen. :TU:  Those are his true reactions and emotions on display. The best part was his saying "that's my old Chevy" just as his son predicted he would.

The reaction to this ad has been extraordinary. All of us here can certainly identify with that passion I think. They aren't "just cars"!

I want to stress that I like the ad; my Dad still has his 65 Catalina that he bought new. (It's been off the road since the Nixon Administration...)

Will Chevrolet/GM build anything with that sort of allure?
I mean, the Impala in the ad seems like a 65'. Will a 97' Lumina hold that same allure in 2043? (Of course, there might not be gasoline by then.)

I picked a 97' Lumina as GM seems in lust with FWD; the new Caprice appeals to me but it's too bad that GM of North America forgot how to build one - and has to have it built by Holden in Australia with a mexican built engine and trans. At least the engine and trans are designed and engineered here.
It also remains to be seen if it will be anything more than a cop car (which I can make work) and the looks of the car are underwhelming.

My bottom line is - don't try to appeal to me with a 65' Impala when all you have that's close is a sports car or a Camaro.
My 94' LT1 Caprice (both a LS and a police package) will remain my summer daily driver for the foreseeable future.

Still wondering if anyone on here has used any company / service to try and find an old car by its VIN. Also what kind of luck you had in your search. Thanks again.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Anyone ever confirm this story? So hard to believe it took so long to find a '65 Chevy in Canada,

    Just MHO, no flames please.
