Which direction of the rotation of the distributor retards timing?? Clockwise or counter-clockwise? Thanks!

I believe counter-clockwise retards the timing.

clockwise retards the timing the distributor turns clock wise so if you turn the cap clock wise the spark will be later therefore retarding the timing..

Two differences of opinion here- which is it?

As has already been stated, the distributor turns clockwise. To retard the timing you must turn the distributor in the same direction as the rotation. In this case, clockwise.
