Did the '71 Skylark Custom have a side post battery?

If so, do most of you folks keep them as side posts or change to a top post? I need a new battery and would appreciate any suggestions (source, size, cost, does Sears have them?) It's (going to be) a daily driver when it's on the road next spring.

And now for the really dumb question, but, are the battery wires/connectors different for top and side posts?

To my knowledge 72' and up had side post terminals from the factory. And yes top post are different. :)

It depends on when your car was built, late 71's also came with side posts.

Personally I hate side posts. I've just had a hard time keeping a solid connection with them. Top posts have more contact between the wire and battery. I've switched my car to top posts and 0 guage cable.

my 72 gs came originally with side terminals from the factory of course. i converted it back to side terminals as the previous owner(s) had used top loaders . i have never had any problem with acdelco side terminal corrosion or failure problems like a lot of u guys, in the u.s. have had. the acdelco batteries sold in canada are made in canada.

Both my cars have side posts...I like them...something odd about a top post where the cables have to angle over the corner of the battery that just doesn't look right....
