Hello all, I have made several threads trying to find out more about my buick valvetrain. Well this not a question more of an obervation. I was out today lessoning to my engine which is making ticking sounds from the top of the engine. The engine is also not burning the gas. I have new accel wires, petronix conversion, superstock coil. resistor spark plugs. It is smoking from the tail pipes and gas fumes fell the air, but the car idles fines. What I am trying to find out is could this problem be related to the valves not opening and closing properly. I also notice that the pushrods are turning freelly. As I mention in a previous post I guffed up and used hollow pushrods with lifters made for solid pushrods, thus lifters have no holes for oil in the top of them. Should the pushrods being turning so easy and if I used my old soild pushrods should I go ahead and change the new lifters, since I used the wrong pushrods.o No: Thanks in advance:beer Julian
pushrods The 340 oiled through the heads and you should have the old aluminum rockers with solid pushrods. '70 and up switched to oiling through the pushrod with hollow pushrods and stamped steel rockers. You may be bleeding off too much oil pressure if you are oiling through the heads with hollow pushrods. just my $.02 Don
Rain Stops Ticking Sound Ok folks do not laught but this is true. My engine has been taping since about 500 miles after rebuilding. My engine stops making those anoying ticking sound when the temperture drops when it rains. Thats crazy right, so could this mean the oil vociety is being broken down by my engine temperure. I am going to change to Penziol 15W-40 synthetic blend. What I used last was Havoline 10w-30 synthectic blend. It gets hot down here in Mississippi so wish me luck. I hope thats not to thick of an oil to run on the drag strip. Any inputs feel free!:beer
