I have owned my "Lark" since 1985, but never drive it anymore.
Like most of us, I would loose my shirt by selling, but that just goes with the territory.

What do you guys / girls think?

NO! don't sell, esp because like you said it would be a losing proposition.. and then you might regret it later as well. i also have a 72 Skylark and will not sell it so i am currently going to sell my driver and get a $500 Century to be able to buy parts :) your 72 is awesome, from the color to the 5 speed :TU:

I'll never sell mine. People thought I was crazy selling the GN to help pay for restoring the old girl, but that's what I did.

If she's really your baby, you'll never forgive yourself for selling her. I think my dad STILL kicks himself for selling his '57 vette 40 years ago.

    Many thanks for the input!

I have been thinking about selling "her" for years - literally.
My Z28 is pretty damn quick, and it has AC, good gas mileage etc.

The Skylark is an insane car. It is faster than the Z28, by a good margin, and it would outhandle it as well. It needs bodywork, paint and rechromed bumpers. Otherwise, I feel "funny" about taking it to car shows when most everyone else's cars are perfect or near perfect. To me, mine is simply not show worthy.

It is a fun car, but I feel like I've outgrown it in some way. Money is tight, and I could use the garage space for the Z28, which is currently worth TWICE what the Skylark is! Unfortunately, the Florida sun is HOT right now, and I don't feel very good about the Z28 cooking outside every day.

    "I'm Soo Confused!!"

You shouldn't worry about yout car not being show worthy. Why should you care what other people think? It's your car. Your choices. And Hell if its as fast and handles as well as you say, you could smoke out the show cars. You don't have a show car, you have a real muscle car. One that is driven more than 5 minutes a year. Enjoy it while you can. Remember it's your choice. But i would probabaly sell until i have more room and money. Or put in storage for awhile. And hell if i had the room in my garage your skylark would be sitting next to my Riviera.

I think you'd regret selling it. If it's not costing you anything to sell it, there's very little gain. Keep the car if it makes you happy, sell it if its a pain...

Why on God's green earth don't you DRIVE that beauty?!?!

If you really won't drive it much ever again, I say YES! Sell it to someone who is in the club (or will JOIN the club) so it gets driven, shown off and enjoyed.

Owning a Rembrandt only means something if someone stops by your house to look at it.

Andrew, If you are truely interested in selling it please let me know. My brother is looking for a skylark or a gs and he might be interested in what you have. As for asking whether you should sell it or not, only you know. Sometimes you just have to sell something to move on to something better.

Like Yardley....for me, the real question is:

Why did you stop driving it ??

to sell or not to sell ...

what it really boils down to is - if u are getting no pleasure from the vehicle , especially since u do not drive it , then why not let someone else enjoy the car ? but life must go on .
    my 2 cents worth .

I have a 72 GS 350 that is not exactly the car I really want now but it was my first GS and I have had it for over 18 years and I now maybe put 100 miles on it a year. I will never sell it because it was my first GS. I had it before the wife came along, so when she kicks me to the curb and I will be able to drive it away(once I jump start it).

I do have room to keep it inside and it is not in the way. Once I get my current project done I will take more time with this car. I brought both my boys home from the hospital when they were born. I have a lot of memories in this car(and on the hood etc!) So I never plan on selling it.

If I really want to convert it to a 70 455 with no AC later then i can. I remember the TA wagon being Mikes Dads car before he got it.

How much sentimental value does it hold? It will appreciate in value while the Z28 will depreciate!

Take a poll. I vote to keep it and start driving it more.

Sorry for the delay in relplies. Computer at home is dead, so I have to use the (gasp!) Library :(

The seats are Scat from California. I do believe that they are still making them, but I am not sure if they have the same model. I bought and installed mine back in 1986, I believe.

....man, that makes me feel old!!!

    Thanks, Jeff

That is good advice. I do love driving it, but right now it has no plate, so there it sits. I believe that it isn't really being hurt much by sitting in a dry garage.

I don't try to show it because it needs body work & paint. I do realize that the car is worth more to me than the rest of the planet, but in some ways I just want to move on.

Maybe I should dring a sixpack of my favorite low-buck beer (Schaefer) and think about it??

    Good idea, Jimmy.

A poll would be a cool idea, AND easy for folks to respond to!

I don't drive my cars much either. I live on the other side of the planet from my garage. But I would say keep it. Put some valid license plates on it and drive it around.

Sounds like it's a nice piece.
