ive pulled a few motors before, but allways still bolted to the trans.allways reinstalled the same way.this time i didnt.how hard is it going to be to line everything up?its not that hard to pull the trans, but if i dont have to...i dont want to!!! uzzled:
Shouldn't be a big deal to reinstall with the trans in place. Just be sure the converter is all the way into the trans. Of course, this is coming from a guy that manages to pinch AT LEAST one wire between the trans and the engine every time I put one in. ou:  Of course, I never know I did until I have all of the trans to block bolts in and tight!
Leave the trans in the car, get a jack under the front side of it and try to get the angle the same when you try to line them up. I never pull the trans unless it needs to be gone through while the motor is out. But definately watch all your wires.
Much easier with two or even three people to guide it in and keep from going sideways. I always regret doing it myself.
i kinda have to do it myself,or with my wife helping :error: i usually end up yelling at her when she "helps".then i wonder what part of the floor my dinner as contacted uzzled: the fun here is i am going to be trying to bolt headers on at the same time  im going to slide the headers in place,zip-tie em some were & get the motor close, bolt headers on then push, shake, cuss the thing into place.i have all the room possible, clips off,no tranny lines, steering box off.but its on the ground on jackstands.gettin to old for this!!! p
Leave it in The nice thing about leaving the tranny in, is once the engine is bolted up to the tranny every thing else is easier to line up. I have done this many times. Like one of the prior posts says make sure the converter is all the way in the pump. Its also a good idea to mark the converter and flex plate so it goes back the same way it was. Helps to keep the viberation gremlins at bay. When putting the engine back in I have had the best luck by jacking the tranny up until it just touches the tranny hump and then let it down about a 1/4th inch. Good Luck Bob H. :beer
Really do not think so unless they are shorty headers. I have installed several engines with the manifolds in place. Have removed and replaced engines with and without transmissions. Prefer leaving the transmission in place to avoid leaking the fluid all over the place. Hope that helps
exactly why i dont want to pull it pi did mark the flywheel to crank mounting, but its going to be a different converter.
