    Wretched Tires should be free!

brought parts car home last night, boosted it to drive it home and it started right up and ran all the way. Today, try to charge the batt, but won't take a charge, so put charger on hi amp start. Turn it over, charger clicks out and now there is a short somewhere because charger wont stay on for 2 sec without overloading, dissconected cabels and it stays on..... Where should I start looking?
    Thanks

first try a different battery. if you have a bad battery, it could be sucking most of your 'kick" power before you ever engage the starter.

a car jump starting it would have much more current available.... but the battery charger is very limited.

    keep us posted.

I thought the battery to, but when I disconect it from the car it stops tripping the charger.

You might want to check that the starter is not stuck in!:Dou:

If it is it will still be trying to turn the motor over.

    Good luck:TU:

when you disconect the battery from the car you have no load,so it wont trip the charger:moonu:are you saying you hook the charger to the cables with no battery and it trips? put a known good battery in it & is still tripping:laugh: look to the starter.that is quite a draw to trip:laugh: the charger,so if it were a short in the accesories, the fuse should blow before the charger trips:laugh: :puzzled:

My bet is on the starter too, now to crawl under and investigate...

You might have a shorted diod in the alternator. Another thing a normal battery charger should never be connected to the car without the battery in place as they are not regulated.
