I dont think its worth it for either of you. Your going to have to crate it. Then shipping is a killer. The shipping time itself could be months. I think the longer its in transit, the more likely it is to get damaged. Then what? Your going to have to deal with customs and all kinds of BS. On big items like that I usually make it a "local pickup only" deal and let the buyer handle it.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

We have a member on our email list named Norman Lutz. Apparently, several of his friends have American cars and get many parts from the USA. He ships his and his friend's parts in containers. So, you would need to ship it to his cargo terminal in LA. I am going to assume the trucking to LA would be about $1 per pound. You can check this out on www.fedex.com. A stock GS hood weighs about 80 lbs and crating using 2x4 and 1/4" plywood would add approx 40-50 lbs.

I tried to ship a hood a couple months back to another board member. The dimensions made it too big for UPS or Greyhound. FedEx would ship it as oversize freight for about $300. I checked with trucking companies and they were all between 250. and 350. Plus , you would have to crate it. You can ship an engine or tranny cheaper. Oh, these rates were to ship from Michigan to Wisconsin. Your Australian buyer may be better off buying an entire parts car and having that shipped.

I've shipped body panels to Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.
Fedex Air and UPS Air are way overpriced. Call around to some of the other air freight companies and you might get lucky with a scheduled flight to Australia within a month. You just have to crate it and make the trip to the airport.
    Still pretty expensive though.

Thanks for your help guys. FedEx on line quote appears to be $735. UPS on line quote says "package exceeds the maximum size constraints" - nobody's every told me that before
I sent Bruce this website page and he can follow up with the suggestion's made from Austrailia. If he doesn't get the hood, he may at least find himself on the V8 pages!
