Since it seems to be so damn difficult to locate a posi for the big car 9 3/8in rear ends, I've been contemplating other ways of obtaining a posi. I've considered welding the spiders but that seems a little crude for a street car. I wouldn't mind running a spool on the street, but welded spiders just seem to be asking for trouble.

I heard some where about shimming the spiders. You shim them tigher than they are suppose to be so they don't turn, but they still have the ability to move a little. The guy I talked to said that he did this on a street driven car for two-three years before the shims wore out. He said it pulled like a posi for the most part. It seems like a cheap way of getting a posi that wouldn't be as harsh as welding the spiders, and is also completely reversable. Anyone have any thoughts?

You just can not shim the spider gears tighter. You will get binding and eventually it will fail...probably when you do not want it to. Another problem is the weight of the car. Very heavy cars wear out parts quicker.

Brad at fabcraft is making a posi for the pontiac and olds drop outs but the buick is different.

ASk richmond if they will do a lock right for the big cars. Never know if you can get enough calls or a petition maybe you can get them made.

I will see what I can do here AGAIN...lol. :) I enjoy getting problems solved. :)

Yea, kinda what I had though initially. Figured I'd at least test out the waters. I might have to contact Richmond. I know alot of full size guys want a posi and have one helluva time finding one. Plus a new lock-right or powertrax will hold up a lot better than a factory used unit.

I might have to start working on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It sounds like you'd know how to get the ball rolling.

If you are looking, I have a couple of posi carriers for 9 3/8 rears. I am holding one for fatboybuick but the other is still available. They are 250 plus shipping.

Do you know what year the available 9 3/8 carrier is from? Any idea if it would work in my '62? There seems to be alot of differences between the various years.
