Somewhere on this board I saw a post of a modified stock GS shifter that someone made that prevented overshifting at the track. I think he welded some stops in the shifter or something to lock the shifter on each upshift & keep it out of neutral... any help or ideas? I did multiple searches without any luck.

    Thanks,
    Ken

I think there is a diagram of this in an old GSxtra if you have old ones. I know it was quite a few years ago. I think it just involved building a weld to avoid neutral.

I did it on mine---like Dave said all you are doing is adding a small weld bead to form a stop between 3rd gear and Nuetral. Just eye the shifter gate with the console off and you will easily see where the area is you need to put the small "bead". Nothing major, you aren't trying to reproduce the Great Wall of China...just a 1/8" tall or so bead and then use a file to square off the 3rd gear side so it creates a positive stop. No need to file or square off the Nuetral side of the "wall".

Thanks for the replies. I'll dig through my old GSxtras. It sounds fairly straight forward. I got to pull the console apart anyway so I plan to do it at the same time. I think my shifter cable or linkage came apart somewhere because I cant get it in first anymore... another weekend project.

    Thanks,
    Ken

I think you can also do it by making a notch in the Drive position, so the trigger falls yet a smidge deeper. Haven't tried it, but it should work, for those of us without the welding option...

Yeah--Nicks suggestion is a whole lot easier and quicker+it takes weight off the car vs adding weight :Brow:

That does sound easier than welding, thanks Nick. If I get time this weekend I will pull it apart & decide how I will modify it.

[ramble mode/on] Once upon a time folks would post stuff about using your air compressor for blah blah blah, and I was like---"Hey, some of us don't have compressors!! What do we do?" Now I have a compressor, but when folks talk about "Just weld blah blah blah"------ :Do No: :error: [ramble mode/off]

I know how you feel Nick. I was fortunate enough to get a used mig welder years ago, but couldn't convince the wife that I needed an air compressor but I finally got that. Like my friend has always been telling, this car stuff isn't a hobby it's a sickness & were very sick. I started a new project last winter & I already have a list of new tools I "need"!
